✅ DO:
• Tailor your resume for each role — align your skills and experience with the job posting.
• Use strong action verbs to highlight achievements, not just duties.
• Keep the layout clean, consistent, and easy to scan.

🚫 DON’T:
• Don’t overload your resume with unnecessary details — every word should add value.

What is hiring managers biggest interview pet peeve? It's not what you think, and it's 100% fixable.

Most job seekers fail before the interview even starts. Your preparation is your competitive edge, and it’s about far more than just "knowing your resume."

You have the skills. Now let's master the strategy. 🎯

Here are a few critical, often-missed steps from the ultimate Job Interview Checklist that will immediately change how hiring managers see you:

🔴 Research the PEOPLE. Forget the company bio. Did you Google the person interviewing you?

🏆 BONUS: Find a recent project they worked on via LinkedIn and mention it. This shows initiative and helps you build instant rapport.

👉 People hire people they like.

🔵 Prepare SMART Questions. Most candidates ask generic questions about the culture.

🏆 PRO-TIP: Ask questions that show you're already thinking like an employee. E.g., "What are the biggest challenges facing this team in the next 6 months, and how would this role specifically contribute to overcoming them?"

✅ STAR Story PERFECTION. Answering behavioral questions ("Tell me about a time...") with rambling stories is the #1 way to lose credibility.

🏆 SOLUTION: Create a STAR story (Situation, Task, Action, Result) for every key job requirement. Keep it under 2 minutes—always end with a quantifiable Result.

👉 👉👉 If your answer to 'Tell me about a time you handled a conflict' is longer than a Peter Jackson film, you're doing it wrong. Keep it tight. Your audience only has so much popcorn.

➡️ Know Your "Tell Me About Yourself." This isn't your life story. It's your 2-minute "Infomercial." It must address three things:

1️⃣ Who you are now.

2️⃣ Your relevant success story.

3️⃣ Why you are excited about this specific role.

🥇Nail this, and the rest of the interview is downhill.

BREAKING THE AGEISM BARRIER

It's easy for age 40+ job seekers to blame ageism when they don't get interviews even when qualified. After all, it couldn't be your fault ... You're awesome!

Older job seekers can take several steps to prevent ageism on their resumes and in interviews:

On Resumes:
1. Modernize Your Resume Format: Use a clean, contemporary design with current resume trends, avoiding outdated fonts and layouts.

2. Focus on Recent Experience: Highlight the most recent 10-15 years of experience, concentrating on relevant accomplishments and skills.

3. Remove Dates for Education: If graduation dates are from many years ago, consider omitting them to avoid revealing age.

4. Emphasize Current Skills: Showcase proficiency in modern technologies, tools, and methodologies relevant to the job.
5. Use a Professional Summary: Start with a powerful summary that focuses on achievements and the value you bring, rather than detailing a long career history.
