Rainy October mornings. 🍂☕️

Cool weather, sniffly kiddos, and absolutely no rush to get out the door today.

Some mornings are productive. Some are chaotic. And some are meant for extra blankets, cartoons, another cup of coffee, and just taking things a little slower.

Today feels like the latter. 🤍

And while there’s plenty on my never-ending to-do list, I’m reminded how grateful I am to have the flexibility to be here for these little moments.

It’s one of the biggest reasons I started looking for a different way to contribute financially to our family.

Not because I don’t want to work.

But because I want to build something that works around our life, instead of constantly rearranging our life around work.

So here’s to slow mornings, warm coffee, and finding the good in the ordinary days.

Hello, October. 🍂

There’s something about the start of a new month — especially this time of year — that always feels like a little reset.

Not a change your entire life by Monday kind of reset. 😂

Just a chance to look at where you are, where you’re going, and maybe be a little more intentional about how you get there.

Yesterday was also our 9th wedding anniversary. 🤍

And between that, the kids and I spending time outside hiking through the fall colours, and another month coming to an end… I’ve been thinking a lot about how quickly seasons change.

Not just these ones. 🍁

These seasons too.

The newlywed season.

The babies-and-no-sleep season.

The little-kid season.

The school pickup season.

The “Mom, look at this!” every three minutes season. 😂

The season of one parent working away while the other holds down the fort.

And now, another new season for our family as we head on to our next little adventure.

None of them last forever.

And I think that’s exactly why I’m becoming so intentional about what we’re building our life around.

I don’t want to rush through this season just to get to whatever comes next.

I want time with my husband.

I want to be there while my kids still want me there.

I want more adventures together.

I want financial security AND the freedom to enjoy the life we’re working so hard to create.

More choices.

More ordinary Wednesday afternoons that turn into some of my favourite memories.

And work that fits somewhere amongst all of it.

I’m heading into October with a lot changing in our world and a lot I still want to build.

But one thing feels pretty clear:

I don’t want to build a successful life someday at the expense of actually living a good one now.

So here’s to another year of marriage. 🤍

A new month.

A new season.

And continuing to build a life we’re really freaking happy to be living.

Hello, Fall. 🍂

Okayyy… Japan is over, the jet lag is (mostly) gone, and real life has come crashing back in. 😂

I’m home.

I’m unpacking.

I’m repacking.

We’re getting school sorted. For the kids AND myself 🤪

We’re getting ready to move into the next chapter of our family’s ever changing (only slightly) chaotic adventure. 😅

And somewhere in the middle of ALL of that… I’m getting back to this business too.

Because here’s something I’m learning:

Consistency doesn’t mean you never get off track.

It means you come back.

You start posting consistently again.

You keep answering the messages.

You pick up where you left off.

You take the twenty minutes you have instead of waiting for the three hours you don’t.

And you just… keep going.

Life isn’t going to suddenly become perfectly organized so I can build something for myself with uninterrupted hours at a time.

Honestly, I’m beginning to suspect that’s never happening. 😂

So I’m building it right here.

Between trips.

Between school days.

Between packing boxes.

Between moves.

Between all the normal, messy pieces of raising a family.

Because the whole reason I wanted to build something differently was so that my work could fit around our life — not the other way around.

So consider this my little kick in the pants to get going again. 🤍

1 express train… 🚅

2 VERY expensive cab rides… 🚕 🚕

3 flights… (2 domestic and 1 international) 💺 ✈️ 💺

6 different airports - not just terminals people - completely DIFFERENT airports 🏯🎡🗼🏗️🏔️🛣️🚦🚧🛳️🌊

And a one 1-hour drive home 💥 🤍

Was up for almost two days with flight cancellations, delays, and that lovely little typhoon that hit Japan (that is the radar at the time our flight was supposed to take off yesterday to get us home…glad we made it home through the craziness and wasn’t one of the almost 300 flights cancelled out of Tokyo. 🤍

Back home and soaking in the snuggles while pushing through the jet lag 🤪

Well… tonight is supposed to be our last night in Japan. 🇯🇵

We fly home tomorrow, hopefully. 🤞🏼

Well, we were flying home tomorrow.

Our original flight has been cancelled and the replacement itinerary we’ve been given is approximately 47 connections, three modes of transportation and arrival home sometime next month.

Okay, slight exaggeration. 😅

But somehow the solution to a cancelled flight tomorrow is apparently to get us home two days later after an absolutely ridiculous number of connections and astronomically long layovers.

Sooooo… that’s fun. 🙃

Thankfully our travel agent is ON IT and currently trying to save us from the airport version of The Amazing Race. 🙌🏼

But for tonight?

There’s literally nothing we can do about it.

So we’re going to enjoy what might be our last night in Japan.

Eat something delicious.

Take in the last bits of Tokyo.

And worry about tomorrow… tomorrow.

This trip has been absolutely incredible. 🇯🇵

And apparently Japan isn’t quite ready to let us go yet. 😂🤍

Turns out laundry follows you all the way to Japan. 😂🇯🇵🧺

Last night in Kyoto looked a little less “bucket-list adventure” and a little more… laundromat.

Because even on vacation, normal life doesn’t completely disappear.

You still need clean clothes.

You still answer the odd email.

You still deal with the little day-to-day things that keep life moving.

And weirdly, standing there watching our laundry spin halfway across the world made me think about business too. 😂

Because building something doesn’t require every day to be some massive, productive, motivational day.

Sometimes you have hours to give it.

Sometimes you have twenty minutes.

Sometimes you’re sightseeing in Kyoto all day and check in while you’re waiting for your underwear to dry. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Consistency isn’t doing ALL the things, ALL the time.

It’s doing what you can, when you can — and then coming back to it again tomorrow.

Little things done consistently add up.

In laundry.

In business.

In life.

Now that we’ve got clean underwear for a few more days… back to Japan. 🇯🇵😂🤍

Today’s office looks a little different. 🇯🇵😂

But actually… today isn’t about work.

Today is about sitting in Tokyo watching SUMO WRESTLING and thinking, how freaking cool is this?! 🤯

I’ll answer a few messages when I have a minute.

Maybe check in on things later.

But mostly?

I’m going to be right here, taking it all in.

Because THIS is why I’m interested in building something differently.

I don’t dream about working from beautiful places around the world.

I dream about having the freedom to put the work DOWN when I’m in them.

There’s a difference. 🤍

Build in the little pockets.

Then go live the big moments.

Today’s big moment: SUMO. 🇯🇵🙌🏼

We made it to JAPAN. 🇯🇵🥹

And before anyone gets the wrong idea from the internet:

No, my online business did not pay for this trip. 😂

This trip was planned. Saved for. And happening regardless of whether I ever started building a business online.

But you know what IS pretty freaking cool?

I travelled across the world yesterday… and my business came with me.

There’s no office I need to get back to.

No vacation time I had to request.

No shift waiting for me at home.

This morning I can have a coffee, answer a few messages, check in on things, put up this post…

…and then put my phone away and go explore Tokyo. 🇯🇵

THAT is what I’m chasing.

Not a life where I’m working every second from every beautiful place I visit.

Quite the opposite.

I want to build something that can fit into the little pockets of my life — whether those pockets happen at my kitchen table in BC or on the other side of the world.

Work a little.

Put the phone away.

Go live a LOT. 🤍

I’m still building. I’m still learning. And I’m certainly not going to pretend the business funded a trip that it didn’t.

But being able to take what I’m building with me?

That’s pretty damn cool.

Now… enough work.

We’ve got Tokyo to explore. 🇯🇵🍜✌🏼
