Through our participation in Call2Recycle’s Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program, our depots collected more than 14,299 kilograms of household batteries in 2025 alone. This strong collection performance reflects our proactive approach to battery recycling and a sustained commitment to responsible environmental practices. We are so pleased to be awarded a Leaders in Sustainability award for our battery recycling efforts! Thank you so much to our customers and staff for helping us achieve such great results.

We are very proud of our long-standing parthership with Pathways Abilities Society! We have been working together to provide employment opportunities for people with diverse abilities since 2007. Not only do we support a customer beverage container donation program at our three Kelowna locations but as a company we also donate $26,856.00 annually in leasable space to run the program. A great partnership for both organizations!

We want to say a HUGE thank you to Columbia Bottle Depot for their generous donation and many years of support. Our partnership with Columbia Bottles is so greatly appreciated.

Do you have refundable bottles or containers that you want to get rid of? ♻ Consider donating them to Pathways, where all of the proceeds go straight into helping maintain employment for individuals with diverse abilities, and funding other services offered by Pathways!

Simply bring your refundable bottles to 1936 Kent Road in Kelowna, and look for the Pathways sign along Bredin Road. Supporting your local non-profit makes a difference! 💙

Thank you so much to the talented UBC Okanagan Visual Arts students who transformed the outside of our St. Paul Street depot! The mural represents a quiet wish for hope and joy. It also celebrates the beauty of summer in the Okanagan. We are incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to partner with the UBCO class and are hopeful the community will enjoy the mural for many years to come!

Our staff are always greatful to have the help and support of the Downtown on Call (DOC) Team at our St. Paul Street depot. We truly appreciate the role the DOC Team plays in not only dealing with concerning issues but also in providing education and training on how best to resolve difficult situations. Thank you so much DOC Team for your compassion and presence in the downtown core of Kelowna!

If you’ve spent time in Downtown Kelowna, chances are you’ve seen the familiar red jackets of the Downtown On Call (DOC) Team), quietly working to keep our city core safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone.

But their role goes far beyond patrol.

Originally launched in 2002 as “Downtown Patrol,” this program began as a partnership with a local security firm to help businesses manage street-level concerns. By 2008, the Downtown Kelowna Association took the reins and officially created its own DOC Team to better reflect its values of community care and connection.

Today, the DOC Team operates 7 days a week, from 7:00AM to 10:00PM, covering a 42-block radius in the heart of Downtown. Their work includes:

Safe Walk escorts for staff, shoppers, and visitors
Bank drop escorts for businesses
On-site support with loitering or aggressive behaviour
Removal of unwanted individuals from private property
Drug paraphernalia and needle pickup
Daily wellness checks and respectful engagement with the vulnerable population
Education for businesses on de-escalation and harm reduction
They also perform regular patrols of parks, laneways, and public spaces, building trust with those in need while acting as a liaison between business owners, social services, and the RCMP.

The DOC Team doesn’t just “deal with issues,” they lead with compassion, training, and presence, helping to create a safer and more connected community.

Need support?
📞 Call the DOC Team at 250.470.9058 (non-emergencies)
🚨 For emergencies, always call 911

Let’s hear it for the red jackets keeping Downtown Kelowna safe, every single day.
