Do something cool this coming fire season!

Our Parattack program is recruiting smokejumpers for the 2026 fire season. Skilled and experienced, smokejumpers are trained firefighters who parachute from fixed-wing aircraft to access emerging wildfires or wildfires that are under resourced.

Based out of the Prince George Fire Centre in Fort St. John and Mackenzie, the Parattack program can respond anywhere in the province within two hours, making them our most flexible and mobile provincial resource. All smokejumpers are prepared to be self-sufficient for 48 hours.

If you’re interested in joining the Parattack team and have a minimum of one year of firefighting experience, apply by Jan.11, 2026.

Watch out for lane closures between Penticton and Kelowna!

We are currently responding to the Drought Hill wildfire (K51121), located approximately two kilometers north of Peachland between Highway 97C and Highway 97. The fire is currently estimated at 12 hectares in size and is classified as Out of Control.

We are responding with initial attack crews, response officers, structure protection personnel and aerial support, including helicopters, tankers and skimmers. Aircraft will be using Okanagan Lake as a water source throughout the afternoon. We are asking the public and recreators to give these critical resources room to work. People using watercraft should move quickly out of the way of skimmers to allow them the space they need to move safely.

The fire is currently burning Rank 3 to Rank 4, meaning a moderately vigorous surface fire with a moderate to fast rate of spread. To learn more about wildfire rank, please visit our webpage here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/.../about-wildfire/wildfire-rank.

Highway 97 and Highway 97C are both closed. Visit https://www.drivebc.ca/ for updates.
