You see real leadership not in calm waters, but in the storm.

Complexity tests leadership habits. It reveals whether leaders default to control or connection, speed or reflection, continued action or paralysis.

The most effective leaders use challenge as a catalyst for growth both for themselves and their teams.

As the 3rd month of 2026 comes to a close, it offers a powerful moment to pause and strengthen leadership capability before momentum accelerates.

What leadership skill will help you navigate the next phase more effectively?

When everything feels uncertain, leadership becomes the anchor.

Teams don’t expect leaders to remove uncertainty; they expect them to create stability within it.

Clear priorities, consistent communication, and visible leadership presence help teams stay aligned and focused.

Equally important is how leaders confidentially facilitate alignment, creating safe spaces to surface different perspectives, clarify priorities behind closed doors, and ensure everyone is moving in the same direction without unnecessarily exposing uncertainty. This behind-the-scenes work builds trust, strengthens cohesion, and enables teams to act decisively even in complex environments.

As March closes, invite your leaders to reflect on how they’re anchoring their teams for the next 3 quarters of 2026.

What anchors or support are you providing for your team right now?

At the heart of every transformation is a human experience.

Strategies shift, structures evolve — but people carry the emotional weight of change. Leaders who recognize this create stronger commitment and resilience.

Human-centered leadership doesn’t slow progress; it sustains it. When leaders show empathy and curiosity, teams stay engaged even under pressure.

This World Economic Forum article explains why effective leadership in today’s complex environment goes beyond strategy. It's about embracing curiosity, supporting people through change, and being human‑centred in how leaders show up. Article: https://zurl.co/l9BPy

This reinforces the importance of developing leaders who can balance performance with people.

Change doesn’t overwhelm teams — unclear or lack of leadership does. Leaders who stay connected to their people, listen and communicate make change navigable.

Change initiatives succeed or fail based on leadership behaviour, not project plans alone.

This means acknowledging uncertainty, inviting dialogue, and reinforcing shared purpose. Teams don’t need perfection; they need authenticity, direction and clarity of task focus.

Leadership of Change: Kotter, ADKAR & Change Management — Quarterdeck — This article explains how Kotter’s 8-step model (alongside other change frameworks) helps leaders drive successful transformation by guiding people through change, emphasising that effective leadership is about how you lead change, not just what the strategy is.

Your presence as a leader sets the emotional tone — especially during change.

In moments of pressure, teams read leaders closely. Tone, body language, and reactions communicate more than words.

Leaders who remain grounded, attentive, and thoughtful help teams regulate stress and stay productive. This emotional steadiness becomes a powerful leadership asset.

Research on emotional intelligence consistently shows that leaders who manage their own responses create healthier, higher-performing teams. Here's a great article written by Maggie Sass PhD, on the connection between emotional intelligence and leadership - https://zurl.co/9k28f

For HR professionals, this reinforces the importance of developing leaders’ self-awareness and presence.

In complex moments, it’s not the answers that define leadership — it’s the questions.

When leaders move too quickly to solutions, they risk missing critical perspectives. In contrast, leaders who ask thoughtful questions unlock insight, ownership, and engagement.

Questions that you genuinely don't know the answer to (ie, not rhetorical) signal trust. They let your team know their insight is important.

Questions invite teams to think critically and contribute meaningfully, especially during change when people want to feel heard.

For senior leaders, developing the habit of enquiry shifts leadership from control to collaboration. It also helps leaders avoid micromanagement, as it surfaces and develops the talent within their teams.

How might you get more curious and use your expertise to formulate good questions as you delegate to your team this week?

Strong leaders don’t promise certainty; they provide clarity.

In times of change, leaders often feel pressure to reassure teams with definitive answers. However, when leaders lock in too quickly, trust can suffer as situations change

Effective leaders focus instead on clarity: what matters now, what remains unchanged, and how decisions will be made. This steadiness helps teams navigate ambiguity with confidence.

According to Forbes, leaders with high emotional intelligence genuinely care for others, going beyond surface-level (or transactional) interactions to truly address the needs and feelings of their team.

For HR leaders supporting organizational change, this distinction between certainty and clarity is critical.

At your next meeting discuss where greater clarity could reduce anxiety and increase focus in your organisation and what steps can you take to support that.

Leadership is easiest when things are clear, but most impactful when external factors are uncertain.

Today’s leaders are navigating constant change: evolving workforce expectations, hybrid models, economic uncertainty, and increasing complexity. Clarity is no longer easy, making leadership presence all the more important.

In complex environments, teams don’t expect leaders to have all the answers. They look for calm, direction, and thoughtful decision-making.

Leaders who can slow the moment, ask better questions, and create space for dialogue help teams stay focused, maintaining momentum in the right direction.

In McKinsey's article 'Developing a resilient, adaptable workforce for an uncertain future', they suggest organisations that build leadership capability during periods of disruption are more resilient and adaptive long-term. Article: https://zurl.co/LK4uq

For HR and senior leaders, March is a reminder that leadership capability becomes visible when certainty disappears.

Vision only matters when leadership behaviour brings it to life.

According to recent studies, 67 % of well-formulated strategies fail due to poor ex*****on, and only about 2 % of leaders believe they’ll achieve 80 – 100 % of their strategic goals, highlighting just how rare it is for vision to be fully converted into results. https://zurl.co/TCX7L

As 2026 gains momentum, leaders will be tested not on ideas, but on ex*****on, and ex*****on is deeply human.

Leadership habits determine whether teams feel motivated, supported, and aligned.

When leaders consistently show curiosity, clarity, and commitment, teams follow.
For organisations focused on long-term growth, leadership development is not a one-time initiative. It’s an ongoing investment.

Culture is shaped daily through leadership behaviours, not posters or slogans. Intentional leaders don’t leave culture to chance.

Leaders who act with intention create clarity and alignment even in uncertain times.

This means:
 - being conscious of tone, priorities, and presence.
 - noticing how decisions are communicated.
 - paying attention to how people feel afterward.

We encourage you to use this last week in February as an opportunity to recalibrate leadership behaviours before the year accelerates.

What intention will you choose to guide how you lead over the next few months? How will doing so impact the results your team can achieve?
