DID YOU KNOW?: 🤔
CANADIAN BILL C-267, officially named the National Framework on the Durability of Electronic Products and Essential Home Appliances Act, is a private member’s bill that proposes a federal plan to make electronics and home appliances last longer and become easier to repair.
* Core Goals of the Bill
• Fight premature obsolescence: Reduce the financial burden on households forced to replace short-lived appliances.
• Promote right-to-repair: Encourage access to affordable parts, tools, and technical documentation.
• Reduce electronic waste: Lower the volume of discarded household devices ending up in landfills.
* Current Status
• Passed Second Reading: The House of Commons agreed to pass the bill to committee stage on June 17, 2026.
THE SOONER THIS IS FULLY IMPLEMENTED, THE BETTER. QUEBEC HAS A SIMILAR BILL ALREADY IN PLACE SINCE 2023 (BILL 29).
