Campfires are now permitted in parts of the Central Okanagan starting Sept. 3 at noon

Following cooler, wetter weather and an update from the Kamloops Fire Centre, Category 1 campfires are now permitted in West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Westbank First Nation, and the Ellison, Joe Rich, North Westside and Wilson’s Landing fire service areas beginning Sept. 3 at 12 p.m.

❗ Campfires remain prohibited in the City of Kelowna, and all open burning remains closed throughout the Central Okanagan until further notice.

If you enjoy a campfire, please use caution, keep fires small, supervise them at all times, and fully extinguish them before leaving. Remember, smoking and va**ng are not permitted in local or regional parks, and fireworks remain banned unless specifically authorized by your local fire department.

🚒 P52 Update — 4th Deployment Tour

P52 remains hard at work, now on its 4th two-week tour of duty. We couldn't be prouder of the dedication our crews continue to show.

Tomorrow, we're excited to welcome home Lt. Cridland and TL Paley after their tour!

Today, TL Mitchell and FF Greer headed out for a crew swap, stepping up to continue the mission.

Safe travels to both teams — and thank you for everything you do. Our department and community are grateful for your service.

Effective at noon (Pacific time) on Monday, Aug. 10, 2026, the operation of any off-road vehicle for recreational purposes on Crown land is temporarily prohibited throughout Kamloops Fire Centre and Southeast Fire Centre, as well as parts of the Cariboo Fire Centre and Coastal Fire Centre.

During this period of extreme and unpredictable fire activity, the priority is public and first-responder safety and the prevention of human-caused wildfires. The operation of any off-road vehicles in these regions during the current wildfire situation creates a potential wildfire risk, such as unintentional ignitions that can lead to new fires.

Off-road vehicles include all-terrain vehicles, motorcycle, and off-road side-by-side vehicles.

This temporary prohibition of off-road vehicles does not apply to private lands or national parks. It also does not apply to emergency responders or to agriculture or commercial/industrial users who operate vehicles for farming, emergency response or business purposes.

August is traditionally the most active month of the wildfire season. Given the number of fires currently burning in B.C., the elevated fire danger ratings and the extremely dry conditions in many parts of the province, the BC Wildfire Service strongly urges people in British Columbia and visitors to stay out of the backcountry in these regions.

This is to prevent the potential for unintentional ignitions of wildfires that can be caused by backcountry activity and to mitigate the risk of being in the backcountry, where it can be more challenging and complex to receive support for evacuation if a fire started.

The BC Wildfire Service is continually monitoring conditions and evaluating the need for further restrictions. This temporary prohibition may be expanded or rescinded as needed.

Anyone found in contravention of this off-road vehicle prohibition may be issued a violation ticket for as much as $1,150. If the contravention causes or contributes to a wildfire, the person responsible may be ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs.

Our wildfire deployment season continues, and we're incredibly proud of the dedication our members have shown.

Pumper 52 remains deployed and continues to support wildfire operations across the province.

Lt. Cridland and FF Greer returned home a few weeks ago after a successful deployment. More recently, Lt. Artiss and FF Dabek spent two weeks assisting with wildfire operations and arrived home safely on Sunday.

Now it's time for the next rotation. Lt. Cridland clearly wasn't ready to stay home and has deployed again, this time alongside TL Paley. We wish them a safe and successful deployment as they continue supporting the ongoing response.

With our crews rotating through deployments, we're already preparing for a fourth rotation if needed.

Closer to home, our Bush Truck has been working alongside BC Wildfire Service as an Initial Attack crew and has responded to wildfire activity in our own area, ensuring our community remains protected while also supporting the provincial effort.

We are incredibly proud of every member who has stepped up this season. Whether serving close to home or deployed elsewhere in BC, the commitment, professionalism, and willingness to answer the call does not go unnoticed.

Two of our members are on the road to support the response to the Brunswick Complex Fire.

We’re incredibly proud of Lt. Cridland and FF Greer as they deploy with Pumper 52 to assist crews working on this challenging incident. Their willingness to answer the call and support neighbouring communities reflects the dedication and professionalism of our department.

🔥 CAMPFIRE BAN 🔥

Effective Friday, July 10 at 12:00 PM (noon), a campfire ban will be in effect within the RDCO boundary. With hot, dry conditions and an elevated wildfire risk, we ask everyone to do their part to help protect our community and surrounding forests.

We’re excited for our Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast & Car Wash on Sunday, June 21! We hope to see everyone there for a great morning of food, fun, and community.
