Don’t worry: we both got the first kiss. šŸ’‹

One of the greatest privileges of this career is earning someone’s trust in literally just a few minutes - despite how much or how little we know each other beforehand - and seeing them SHINE in front of my lens no matter their initial comfort level.

I’m forever grateful for that.

Sneaks for I + N as I prepare their final gallery!

The Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa doesn’t pause for wedding portraits. Depending on the wedding day timeline, there’s a very good possibility that there will be museum patrons wandering the exhibits, enjoying the architecture and space at the same time as photos. That means my couples and I literally have minutes, not hours to get portraits done, always being mindful and respectful of the public first.

SO, as we navigate all the floors and twists and turns to the museum, I need to know where the best light is, when it will appear (and disappear), how the space will open up from museum patrons with the best flow and how to create photographs that feel as though we had the museum all to ourselves - all with minimal gear to abide by museum rules.

These are a few frames we created in the smallest pockets of time this past weekend for Janet + Sean, self-professed ā€œnerdsā€ (their words) who really wanted photos with dinosaurs - which, of course, we made happen as if it wasn’t a Saturday afternoon in July at the museum. šŸ˜‰ Swipe to see that frame.

How’d we do?

People often think it’s hard to give up my weekends and I always respond that I can make my ā€œweekendā€ be any day of the week, anytime of the year. It’s a trade off I’m happy to make as a full-time Ottawa wedding photographer. ā¤ļø

Also, quick fact: I’m really an introvert at heart - so I’ll take a quiet mid-week escape over the hustle and bustle of a Saturday / Sunday. šŸ‘Œ

Is it just me or are weddings trending towards smaller, more intimate gatherings now more than ever?! (And we can no longer blame it on ā€œcovidā€ either.)

This year, over half my weddings have guest counts that are between 10 and 50 - and that’s including the couple! 😲

I have my theories, but what do you think is going on?! šŸ¤”

Case in point here: A & Y had a sweetly fabulous day with a total guest count of 13. They chose The Starling Restaurant for their ceremony, followed by family photos and creatives in and around the Chateau Laurier - finished off by an intimate dinner reception and dancing back at The Starling.

Swipe to see their day and smiles throughout. Their time was relaxed and enjoyable - for all.

Low pressure, low performance. Max joyful experience.

Majority small weddings this year? If they’re all like this, I’m not mad about it. šŸ˜

Are you team intimate wedding or team big fat Greek wedding? šŸ˜‰ Inquiring minds want to know…

Resharing this because I keep coming back to it:

Gabrielle wore her mother’s wedding dress for her day and - somehow, despite the decades that have passed since this dress made its debut in the 90’s - it just seemed absolutely perfect for Gabrielle in a way that no new dress could have ever been. šŸ˜

The vintage slip, dressing gown, purse, pearls, shoes, updo … it all just came together in a way that felt spontaneous and effortless … like she just reached into her mother’s closet and things just WORKED. šŸ‘Œ

This really was magical to photograph.

Proof that some things don’t go out of style … they just wait for the right moment to resurface again.

✨Tell me: Would you want (or would have wanted) to be able to experience this? Is the dress you’re looking for still in your mother’s closet?
