πŸŽ’πŸšŒ BACK TO SCHOOL β€” SCHOOL BUS SAFETY STARTS WITH ALL OF US! πŸš’

The school year is here, and that means more buses, more children, and more activity on our roads.

The North Grenville Fire Service reminds everyone to slow down, stay alert, and give our students the space they need to get to and from school safely.

πŸ›‘ RED LIGHTS MEAN STOP!
When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, STOP and remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the stop arm is retracted.

πŸš— A few reminders for drivers:
β€’ Slow down in school zones and residential areas
β€’ Watch carefully for children walking, biking, and waiting for buses
β€’ Never pass a stopped school bus when its red lights are flashing
β€’ Be prepared for children to cross unexpectedly
β€’ Put the phone away and stay focused on the road
β€’ Set a good example β€” our kids are watching!

Let's work together to make sure every student gets home safely. ❀️

Safe kids. Strong community. We all play a part.

🚨 SLOW DOWN. MOVE OVER. SAVE LIVES. 🚨

Recently, North Grenville Fire Service crews were on scene along Highway 416 responding to a tractor-trailer brake fire.

While our firefighters were working to extinguish the fire and make the scene safe, we observed far too few motorists slowing down or moving over as they approached the emergency scene.

πŸš’ This creates an extremely dangerous environment for our firefighters and other emergency personnel.

When you see stopped emergency vehicles with their emergency lights activated:

➑️ MOVE OVER β€” if it is safe to do so, move over one lane away from the emergency vehicle.

⬇️ SLOW DOWN β€” if you cannot safely move over, slow down significantly as you pass.

πŸ‘€ PAY ATTENTION β€” watch for firefighters, police officers, paramedics, tow operators and other personnel who may be working close to traffic.

Remember, the emergency vehicle may be visible from a distance, but the people working around it may not be.

Our crews are there to protect you and your community. Please do your part to protect them.

Give us room. Give us time. Get us home. ❀️‍πŸ”₯
