📌City-Wide Fire Ban Lifted Effective August 20, 2026 at 12:01 a.m.

Please be advised the City-wide fire ban is lifted as of Thursday, August 20, at 12:01 a.m. This follows the announcement from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) ending the Restricted Fire Zone for the northwest region.

📌Although the fire ban has been lifted, conditions remain dry, and residents are strongly encouraged to burn responsibly and safely with extreme caution. 📌

📓Open Air Burning Permits🔥
City of Kenora burning permits are reinstated. An Open Air Burning Permit is required in the City of Kenora and may be purchased at City Hall. Rules and contraventions included with the permit must be reviewed by the person in charge and control of the fire before starting. The following rules apply:

• Burn only old grass, leaves, waste wood, small brush piles, and untreated lumber;
• Single burn pile must be 10 m away from all flammable material;
• Burn pile must not exceed 2 m around and be less than 2 m high;
• The fire must be supervised at all times;
• You must have a water source or fire extinguisher readily available.

🔥Camp Fires 🪵
A burning permit is not required for camp fires. Camp fires are permitted only when they meet all of the following conditions:
• The fire is used to cook food on a grill or barbecue, or for personal warmth or entertainment.
• The fire is on a non-combustible surface, such as gravel, sand or rock.
• The fire has a defined perimeter made of rock, metal or cement.

Before you burn, check that the conditions are safe to burn and that it is not windy. You can burn in the evening only, two hours before sunset and two hours after sunrise. Do not leave fires unattended, have suppression equipment on site, and make sure your fire is dead out.

🚫🔥The Restricted Fire Zone announced by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) on July 15, 2026, remains in effect for the Northwest region. The City of Kenora Fire and Emergency Services city-wide fire ban remains in place and will continue until further notice. 🚫🔥

🚫All outside burning is prohibited, including brush and grass burning or backyard fire pits.

🚫All burning permits are cancelled until further notice.

The City of Kenora fire ban will remain in effect until the Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) is lifted by MNRF.

👍𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗲
Gas or fuel stoves, charcoal, and wood burning stoves or furnaces are 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨:

𝗚𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘃𝗲
If you need heat for cooking or warmth in a RFZ, you can only use:
• a portable liquid fuel or gas stove (for example, barbeque), that can be turned off easily by closing a shut-off valve or lid
• the stove must be at least 1 metre away from any naturally occurring flammable material

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗹
You can use a charcoal installation in a RFZ for cooking or warmth, only if you are within 100 metres of a permanent structure used as a dwelling and are on land that you legally occupy.

Your charcoal installation must be:
• at least 1 metre from any naturally occuring flammable material
• designed to use commercially produced charcoal as fuel
• using commercially produced charcoal as fuel
• completely extinguished and all ashes and coals safely disposed of before installation is moved or left unattended

𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗲
You can use an outdoor wood burning stove or furnace only if you are within 100 metres of a permanent structure used as a dwelling and are on land that you legally occupy.

Your wood burning installation must be:
• at least 5 metres from any wildland area (including grass, brush and forest)
• at least 2 metres from any flammable material
• situated on bare rock, mineral, soil or other material that won’t burn and extends 2 metres around the stove or furnace in all directions
• designed to be used for cooking or warmth
• designed to use wood as the fuel source and wood is being used as the fuel
• made entirely of non-combustible material
• enclosed the fire on all sides with solid material
• equipped with working spark arresting devices for all vents and chimneys
• if the wood burning stove is portable, all ashes and coals produced are completely extinguished and safely disposed of before the stove is moved

The OPP and Kenora Firefighters will be there with donation jars. Opp will be collecting for team cat and the firefighters for team dog. Support both if you have a cat and a dog!!

Congratulations to Delano Cantera who just finished his first week as a Probationary Fire Fighter. Delano joined as a PPC in September of 2021. He brings a strong background in industrial project management, engineering and manufacturing. His technical and problem solving skills will be a great asset to our team. We wish Probationary Fire Fighter Cantera all the best in his new career!
