One of the most difficult challenges small businesses face daily is employee retention!
Well, the first thing I would look at is your hiring process.
If your process is to have one interview and you're hired, then maybe you should start there.
Before I hire, I have a list of non-negotiables. If you don't have any, then think about these three as a starting point.
#1 - There is a minimum of three interviews - I need to make sure they are the right fit culturally, they have the skill set, and I need to understand how they work.
#2 - They must be entrepreneurial! Why? Because I want my staff to show incentive, be innovative and have a problem-solving spirit. I don't want to build a culture of micro-management.
Before I hire anyone, I have a list of non-negotiables. If you don’t have any of your own, consider these three as a starting point:
#1 - I conduct a minimum of three interviews. Why? Because this ensures that the candidate is a good cultural fit, possesses the necessary skills, and allows me to understand how they work.
#2 - I look for entrepreneurial candidates. Why? Because I want my team to demonstrate initiative, be innovative, and possess a problem-solving mindset. My goal is to build a culture that encourages independence rather than one that relies on micromanagement.
Care to share your non-negotiables when hiring? Would love to hear what they are.
