Today's announcement by Minister McKinnon is a significant win for Kingston and the business community. It reflects years of coordinated advocacy by the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce, alongside Kingston Accommodation Partners, Tourism Kingston, KEDCO, Downtown Kingston, the City of Kingston, and MP Mark Gerretsen.

Kingston's inclusion in the Alto project recognizes our city's strategic position within one of Canada's most important economic corridors and strengthens our role as a regional transportation hub.

For businesses, improved rail connectivity means better access to customers, talent, investment, and tourism. The potential integration with VIA Rail services will help move people more efficiently throughout the region and across the country, supporting economic growth and making Kingston an even more attractive place to live, work, visit, and do business.

We look forward to working with our partners to ensure Kingston and the surrounding region realize the full economic benefits of this important investment.

The future of our workforce starts with conversations like these.
Over the past school year, local business leaders, professionals, and entrepreneurs stepped into Kingston-area classrooms to help students explore careers, build confidence, and connect learning to real-world opportunities.

Through the Ontario Career Lab – Career Coaching Program, delivered in partnership with HIEC and KEYS, more than 1,560 students connected with mentors from a wide range of industries, gaining valuable insights into life after high school.

As a proud community partner, The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce was honoured to help connect local professionals with students and support these meaningful conversations about future career pathways.
