⭐️ Keeping our Hometown Heroes series rolling—because the people who show up when things go sideways deserve the spotlight.

Next up: Our Deputy Chief, Mr. Benny Baker.

If Benny isn’t tinkering around the fire hall or wrangling a wayward hose, he’s probably zipping by in a Baker Enterprise truck, dangling from a bucket truck like it’s his natural habitat, or politely convincing a tree it’s time to come down. On sunny days, you might catch him cruising on his motorbike.

Benny has served on the fire department for 46 years—yes, forty six years, which officially qualifies him as a legend.

Benny had many safety tips to share but His big one was: keep your home tidy and your hallways and stairs clear. One day those paths might need to be used in a hurry….. and you’ll want them as wide open as Benny’s calendar on the five minutes a week he isn’t helping someone.

KFD was busy in this wind. We were toned out at 12:49 for mutual aid with Wawota for a grass fire. And while attending that call, also received a call for a downed power line bush fire at another location.

All units back in service by 4:30.

Stay safe!

💨 The winds are definitely making their presence known today and are expected to continue through tonight. With conditions like these, we’re asking everyone to take a few extra precautions to help keep our community safe. 🚒

🔥 Please avoid any outdoor burning today. Even a small fire can spread quickly and become dangerous in high winds.

🗑️ Secure garbage bins, trampolines, lawn furniture, and any loose outdoor items that could blow away or cause damage.

🚬 Ensure cigarette butts are completely extinguished and never thrown from vehicles.

🚜 Farmers and anyone working outdoors are encouraged to stay alert for sparks from equipment, especially around dry grass and fields.

⚠️ If you notice smoke or fire, report it immediately.

A little extra caution goes a long way during windy conditions. Thank you for doing your part to help protect our community and keep everyone safe until the winds settle down.

🚨 EXTREME FIRE RISK – SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN 🚨

Whitewood Fire Department is urging residents to use extreme caution as much of southern Saskatchewan is currently under extreme fire weather conditions.

The latest Fire Weather Index shows widespread red (extreme) across the southern half of the province — meaning fires can start easily, spread rapidly, and become very difficult to control.

🔥 What this means:

* Dry grass and brush can ignite within seconds
* Fires will spread fast and unpredictably
* Even small sparks (ATVs, machinery, ci******es) can start a wildfire

🚫 Please avoid:

* Burning of any kind
* Fire pits and campfires
* Parking vehicles in tall grass
* Using equipment that may create sparks

✅ Take precautions:

* Check local burn restrictions before any activity
* Keep water or extinguishers nearby if working outdoors
* Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately

This is not normal spring moisture — conditions are dangerously dry. One careless moment can put lives, homes, and farmland at risk.

Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe.

⭐️ The Kipling Fire Department is proud to initiate a community spotlight series, shedding light on the selfless individuals who make a difference in times of need.

This week, our firefighter of the week is our Chief- Ken Nordal.

When Ken isn’t at the fire department, he’s spending time with his wife Deb, his family, and helping out a friend in his garage a couple days a week. Ken also enjoys taking his collector cars to car shows around the countryside.

Our fearless chief has been on the department for 48 years!

Ken’s safety advice is: To leave with ample time when traveling , so there is no need to speed. Drive defensively, and don’t forget- you are driving for the other people on the road, as well as yourself and your passengers.

A big thank you to Ron and Kim Zepick for generously allowing us to use a house and shed on their property for fire practice on Saturday. Opportunities like this provide incredibly valuable training for our department. The house provided an amazing opportunity for search and rescue practice.

Interior fire attack is one of the most critical skills we train for, and it’s nearly impossible to replicate without a real, live fire scenario. This experience allows our members to gain hands-on, realistic training in a controlled environment, with qualified instructors closely monitoring every step.

HUGE thank you to Mike and Brent as well as members from Grenfell Fire Department for coming and training with us.
