🚨 Evacuation Order Issued for Mattagami First Nation Due to Nearby Wildfire
A State of Emergency and Evacuation Order has been declared for Mattagami First Nation, near Timmins, as crews continue to battle a wildfire burning west of the community.
According to Mattagami First Nation Chief and Council, the evacuation order was declared at 6:15 PM on June 2 due to the immediate threat posed by the nearby wildfire and concerns for the health, safety, and well-being of residents. Residents are now in the process of being evacuated throughout today.
The wildfire, known as Timmins 9 is located about 14 km west of the community. It was reported on May 31st and is now approximately 460 hectares is size. Fire crews with the Ministry of Natural Resources continue working to bring the fire under control.
Community leadership, emergency management officials, and partner agencies are coordinating evacuation efforts and assisting residents with transportation, accommodations, and other support services. Residents have been advised to follow instructions from emergency personnel and stay informed through official channels.
