Important update for foreign home care workers in Canada. ⚠️

IRCC has clarified that applicants under the Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots are NOT eligible for Bridging Open Work Permits (BOWP). This means workers cannot rely on a BOWP to continue working while their PR applications are processed and may need another way to maintain their status once their current permits expire.

This exclusion has raised strong concerns from advocacy organizations, especially since applicants under several other economic immigration programs can access bridging permits while awaiting their PR decisions. Many affected workers are now facing growing financial pressure and uncertainty amid lengthy processing times.

If you're a home care worker unsure about your options or upcoming permit expiry, don't wait until it's too late. Speak to a professional today.

Refugee protection claims in Canada have dropped sharply in 2026! πŸ“‰

New refugee claims fell to just 2,652 cases in July 2026, a major decline from the over 11,000 cases recorded during the same period last year.

Here's what the latest numbers show:
πŸ“Š Pending inventory: 268,058 claims (down thanks to higher processing capacity)
βœ… Finalized cases in June alone: 13,034
πŸ“ˆ Pending refugee appeals: climbing close to 6,000 open files

While claim intake is slowing, faster case resolutions show Canada's immigration system is working through its backlog. Refugee appeals, however, continue to rise, something worth watching for anyone navigating this process.

Have questions about refugee claims or appeals in Canada? Our RCIC-certified team is here to help.
