Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
We take this time to remember and honour the workers who have lost their lives, been injured, or become ill due to workplace incidents.
Across Canada, workplace injuries and illnesses continue to impact hundreds of thousands of workers every year.
According to national data from AWCBC and the Government of Canada, there are over 348,000 accepted workplace injury claims annually, along with more than 1,000 fatalities across the country.
The most common causes — overexertion, falls, and struck-by incidents — are often preventable with the right equipment, training, and safety practices.
Workplace health risks are just as critical. Long-term exposure to hazards like dust, chemicals, and noise can lead to serious occupational illness if not properly managed.
