Another one underground and ready to work.

A new Demag Cranes North America DC-Com chain hoist, installed today in a Saskatchewan potash mine, replacing a retired Kito hoist that had reached the end of its service life.

This DC-Com will now spend its working life in the underground tire change bay, helping keep some very large equipment moving.

Out with the old, in with the new — installed, commissioned, and ready for service.

Some of the people behind another great year at SafeLift Crane Aid. 💪

It’s going to be another great week — and this great year just keeps rolling!

Friday, we received some exciting news: we’ve been awarded a manufacturing contract right here in Saskatchewan for an R&M Materials Handling, Inc. customer.

This project was previously supplied by an out-of-province crane manufacturer who declared insolvency a year or more ago.

Due to contractual obligations, we can’t share the customer or project details, but we can share how the opportunity came to us.

Word of mouth.

We didn’t chase the contract. We don’t have a sales team out knocking on doors. Once again, our reputation and, most importantly, the workmanship of the people in this picture and the rest of our team opened the door.

You can spend a lot of money telling people how good you are, but there’s nothing more powerful than your customers telling other people about the work you do.

There’s also something especially rewarding about seeing another manufacturing contract awarded right here in Saskatchewan, to a Saskatchewan company, supporting Saskatchewan jobs and Saskatchewan manufacturing.

I’m proud of this team, proud of what we’re building, and grateful for every customer who continues to put their trust in us.

Another contract. Another door opened. And another great week ahead.

"Your crew is elite.”

That was the text I received from one of our mining clients this morning.

Yesterday, we received an urgent breakdown call from a mine site about an 8-hour drive from Saskatoon—one way.

Like most days, our crews were already busy. We looked at the work underway and determined which crew we could free up with the least impact on our other customers. One of our crews was working on an important job in Saskatoon, but the equipment they were working on wasn't affecting production.

The mining client was down and needed us.

So we reorganized the schedule, pulled that crew from the Saskatoon job, and sent them out immediately.

After an 8-hour drive, they arrived on site and put in a long shift to get the crane inspected and the wire rope changed.

This morning, I received this message:

“Please thank your guys for putting in a long shift yesterday to get the crane inspected and rope change. Your crew is elite……”

That's a message I'm proud to receive.

At SafeLift Crane Aid, we talk a lot about old-fashioned customer service, but it's more than a slogan.

When a customer's production is affected, we do everything reasonably possible to respond. That means prioritizing our crews, communicating with our other customers, and sometimes changing an entire day's plan because someone needs us more urgently.

We have a simple philosophy:

When our customer has a breakdown, we treat it like it's our breakdown.

Sometimes that means an 8-hour drive.
Sometimes it means rearranging schedules.
Sometimes it means a long shift after you get there.

Yesterday, one of our crews did exactly that.

That's the standard our people represent.

Breakdown on a DMR today—a bit of a strange one.

The crane had intermittent trolley travel, which can sometimes make troubleshooting more challenging. After working through the system, we traced the problem back to the drive.

Fortunately, we had a spare drive available, so we were able to switch it out and get the crane back in service within a couple of hours.

A big thank you to Todd Bliss & Demag Cranes North America for his technical support and assistance in getting this one diagnosed and back up and running quickly.

Good troubleshooting, the right parts on hand, and solid technical support can make all the difference when downtime matters.

30-Ton Load Test Underground

Getting ready to complete a 30-ton load test on an overhead crane deep underground in a Saskatchewan potash mine, using or Canadian stocked Unique Group Waterweights.

This crane was originally designed and commissioned for its rated 30-ton Safe Working Load (SWL). Following ground movement in the mine, the engineering team identified that the crane rails had been affected and required repair before the crane could safely be returned to its original rated capacity.

Those repairs have now been completed, and the next step is proving the system under load.

Our WaterWeights load-testing bags are now rigged to the hook as we prepare to carry out the full 30-ton load test and recommission the crane back to its designed SWL.

Underground crane work presents its own challenges, but whether we're installing, repairing, inspecting, or load testing, the objective remains the same: make sure the equipment is safe, compliant, and ready to work.
