Dryer Booster Fan Repair and Remount.
This plastic dryer booster fan repair was relatively simple. But made a huge difference and saved the homeowner the cost of a new fan.

For this Dryer Booster Fan Repair and remount , was able to quickly get it back working. This model of fan tends to come apart on the inside. If I'm called quickly enough I can put things back together and tighten everything up. This will give the fan many more years of service. If there is a delay before calling me then, the internals of the fan can break. This may require the fan to need replacing.
This fan was shaking before I arrived and shook it off the wall. I remounted the fan. I also changed the ducting to a flexible duct. This allows the duct cleaning technicians at Michael A. Smith Duct Cleaning better access to clean the duct in the ceiling. The only thing that would have been better would have been also installing a lint box.

New Booster Fan and Lint Box

This new booster fan was installed to replace the old PWS100 booster fan. These old fans were good in their time but there are much better options now. So instead of having me repair the existing old booster fan, the owner asked me to just replace it.

The old booster fan and lint box were hard to reach; So I installed the new booster fan and lint box in a better location. Making it much easier to reach.

With the newly installed booster fan, I use flexible duct. This allows the dryer duct cleaners much better access to clean out the duct in the future. Once the dryer booster fan and lint box were complete, see about getting the dryer duct cleaned too.

Old dryer booster fans.
Recently I completed a large job for a Vancouver strata building. They had a few dryer booster fans that had started to fail. The building is 20 years old, so the fans are also 20 years old.

So they had me replace all the old dryer booster fans. This big job generated a fair bit of waste. This includes packaging for the new fans, old metal and also the old dryer booster fans. I hate to send waste to the landfill. So over the course of the project I separated all the material and made several trips to the local recycling facilities. Thankfully they're close by.

Every time I repair, replace or install a booster fan, I sort out all the recyclable material. I also try to only replace fans when absolutely necessary. Many types of booster fans are good quality and can be repaired over replacing. This saves on waste. Unfortunately many of the types of dryer booster fans installed in recent years are of low quality and tend to break more frequently.

Dryer Booster Fan Fire Hazard
I came across this Dryer Booster Fan control switch completely melted and burnt out. The worst I've seen. In this case the only symptom of a problem was the booster fan wasn't working. In other cases there might be a burnt smell associated.

It's not often that Dryer Booster Fans are a fire hazard but in extreme cases they can be. If you suspect a problem of any kind. Stop using you booster fan and give me a call.

This booster fan fire hazard was easily fixed with a new control switch.

I've come across other fire hazards in dryers. Usually due to a build up of lint inside the dryer. For more info on removing lint buildup visit masduct.com

Broken Plastic Booster Fans
These types of plastic booster fans get brittle and break over time. I've been seeing more of them lately and will probably post more pictures soon. They are especially susceptible to damage when the builder hangs a heavy lint box from the fan. It doesn't help when screws are in the brittle plastic.

The solution is a new fan. Made of metal that will last a very long time. The lint box is also relocated to a better spot that is not hanging from the fan. The new spot for the lint box is much more accessible for the user.

Bad Ceiling leak from the dryer duct.
Here I was called out to a suite in Vancouver that had a bad ceiling leak from the dryer duct. This suite had a very long duct but, when it was built, a booster fan wasn’t installed. Overtime and use a leak started.

I installed a dryer booster fan to help out with the air flow.

This booster fan should help significantly. After a few months of testing the residents will be able to repair the ceiling.

Uncommon booster fan repair.
I was called into this suite in Vancouver because they were having problems with their dryer. They had their dryer inspected and it was working fine so the technician said that it must be something wrong with the dryer booster fan.

The problems they were having were that clothes were not drying, the dryer was getting very hot and the dryer would shut off.

Typically these symptoms are due to a blocked duct. Not in this case. Here the problem was a very dumb one.

When the building was constructed the fan installer put the fan in backwards. So instead of venting to the outside, the booster fan was trying to blow towards the dryer.

When just looking at the booster fan it’s hard to tell that it was installed in the wrong direction. But upon closer inspection it was obvious.
I quickly remounted the fan and since then the resident reports that everything is working great.

This booster fan was an absolute mess. The tenants in this suite do a huge amount of laundry each week but little was done to take care of the Dryer, Duct and Booster fan. As a result there was the start of a ceiling leak.

Then I first opened up this fan, a large amount of water fell out. Surprising me as this has never happened to me with this type of fan. The cause of all of this was the inside of the dryer was so full of lint that the lint screen couldn’t sit in it’s proper position.

Because the screen wouldn’t go all the way down, the lint got past it. This lint went on to clog up the duct and fan. Then water couldn’t be blown out and the dryer no longer worked.

For this I had to open up the dryer and clean out all the lint inside. Then clean out all the lint in the duct and booster fan.

Unfortunately this fan couldn’t be repaired and had to be replaced.

After all this was complete the dryer and fan are now working flawlessly.

Introducing the new van. This will make it so much easier work out of. It will also be cheaper to operate. Most days I drive in to Vancouver from Langley. This is so much more fuel efficient.

Dryer booster fan in cupboard

Here I removed a very old and broken dryer booster fan from this cupboard. I then installed a new fan in it’s place. The owner was very pleased because the fan was able to be hidden from view. I was also able to put the fan in a spot that allowed the dryer duct cleaners easy access.

The owner also requested I install a secondary lint box. This lint box will keep the booster fan and dryer duct clear of lint.

At this laundry room in a university dorm. The dryer lint boxes were damaged and not being used properly. Their location made it difficult to clean the screens. This was causing the clothes to not dry properly and also causing some water leaks.

I was asked to come in to install new dryer lint boxes. The ones I installed are user friendly. The students and staff won't have any problems cleaning these ones. The location of the lint boxes are not perfect, as I was confined to the space available. It will still work fantastic for them.

Dryer Booster Fan in ceiling

Here I came across a dryer booster fan in the ceiling. It hadn’t been serviced in a very long time, if ever. It was completely broken and as such it had to be replaced. Usually this type of fan can be repaired or even just needs a minor service but in this case it was left too long.

When this particular laundry closet was built there contractor never put in a service door for access to the fan. As a result I had to cut open the ceiling, replace the fan and install a service door.

Because there had been no access for many years the duct had also not been cleaned. This caused a huge buildup of lint. This caused ceiling leaks and other problems.

Some builders like to hide the Dryer Booster fan in Ceilings to make it more aesthetic but by doing this it can lead to many future problems. Which is why I always put fans where they are accessible. This makes it easy to insure they are working properly and to service them when needed.
