August was a busy month for the Langley Chamber!

From celebrating the Women’s Network’s 3rd anniversary and introducing new members to hosting Dinner in the Valley, and a Langley Next Gen Business Network mixer in collaboration with CYPE, it was a month full of connection, learning, and community.

We also continued our advocacy and business support work through a CUSMA roundtable with MPs Tako Van Popta and Randy Hoback, tariff updates for members, a PST information session, a meeting with the Pudong SASAC Delegation, and the launch of our new Executive Peer Advisory Circles.

Thank you to our members, partners, and guests who helped make August such an active and meaningful month.

A new and truly unique holiday party venue is coming to Langley this winter.

For the first time, Chamber member Thunderbird Show Park is transforming its stunning site into a venue for winter events — giving local businesses a special new option for holiday parties and year-end celebrations.

Set in tbird’s beautiful countryside setting, businesses can choose from two distinctive spaces:

Timberframe Lodge — a warm, one-of-a-kind setting for cocktail receptions and smaller gatherings of up to 60 guests, with lounge seating, charcuterie, passed appetizers and full bar service.

Winter Pavilion — designed for larger corporate celebrations of up to 200 guests, with banquet seating, buffet dining and a full-service bar in a beautifully decorated seasonal setting.

If you’re looking for something memorable and a little different from the traditional banquet hall, this is a special local venue worth checking out.

One week out from Canada’s retaliatory tariffs coming into effect, now is the time to understand how your business may be impacted.

The Langley Chamber’s Tariff Toolkit includes information to help businesses review what is being tariffed in each direction, understand potential ways to avoid or reduce tariff exposure, and find available supports if your business is affected.

Whether you import, export, rely on US suppliers, or are part of a broader supply chain, the toolkit is designed to help you assess your risk and plan your next steps.

Traffic Alert: Industrial Avenue and 203 Street

Businesses and drivers in the area should plan for temporary closures and traffic changes beginning September 2 as Surrey Langley SkyTrain construction continues.

The intersection of Industrial Avenue and 203 Street will be fully closed from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on:

• September 2
• September 3
• September 10

On September 5, there will be no access to 203 Street from Industrial Avenue, although 203 Street itself will remain open.

Two-way traffic will remain in place on Industrial Avenue between 201A Street and 203 Street during the work. Access to nearby businesses and residences will be maintained.

Construction activity will begin at 6:00 a.m., and some additional noise and truck activity should be expected.

If you travel through this area, allow extra time and follow posted signage and traffic-control directions.

Canada Announces Counter-Tariffs on US Goods Effective September 8

The Government of Canada has announced a new round of counter-tariffs on selected products imported from the United States, with the measures taking effect on September 8.

The counter-tariffs are a direct response to the recent 50% US tariffs imposed on a range of Canadian products. Canada’s response applies tariffs of 15%, 25%, or 50% depending on the product, with the Canadian tariff matching the corresponding US tariff rate.

The measures will apply to approximately $27.6 billion in imports from the United States, focusing on sectors including steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, electronics, and other products affected by the recent US trade actions.

For many businesses, these measures represent another layer of uncertainty in an already challenging trade environment.

While the immediate focus has been on Canadian exporters affected by US tariffs, these new Canadian counter-tariffs will also have implications for businesses that import products, materials, equipment, or components from the United States.

Depending on the goods involved, businesses may experience higher input costs, supplier price increases, procurement challenges, or broader supply chain impacts. Businesses are encouraged to review the list of affected products and determine whether any goods they import from the United States will be subject to the new tariffs.

Companies should also review existing supplier agreements, assess potential cost impacts, and work with customs brokers or trade advisors where clarification is required.
