UNDRIP isn’t just an international document—it has real implications for how cities work with Indigenous people every day.

From land use and development to cultural services, housing, and environmental stewardship, UNDRIP provides a framework for doing things differently—and doing them right.

Through Call to Action #43, municipalities are being called to put these principles into action.

The City of Brantford is engaging Indigenous residents and organizations to help define what that should look like locally.

Your voice will help shape recommendations that guide future decisions.

What is UNDRIP? Why does it matter?

UNDRIP is a global declaration that affirms the rights of Indigenous peoples—including rights to culture, land, and self-determination.

In Canada, TRC Call to Action 43 calls on all levels of government—including municipalities—to adopt and implement UNDRIP as the framework for reconciliation.

That means:
✔ Respecting Indigenous rights
✔ Listening to Indigenous voices
✔ Supporting Indigenous-led decision-making

Reconciliation is not just about acknowledging the past, it’s about changing how decisions are made today.
