Things are getting a little spooky in Parry Sound! 🎃

We had the pleasure of collaborating with Parry Sound and Explorer’s Edge (RTO12) teams to bring a little Halloween magic to life through a fun, spooky billboard promoting this year’s Witches Walk.

We’re also excited to hear that this beloved community event has also been named a finalist for a TIAO award!

It’s always exciting to support creative tourism initiatives that celebrate local communities, bring people together, and showcase the unique experiences that make our destinations so special.

Reconciliation asks more of us than reflection.

One of the most impactful ways we can carry the responsibility of reconciliation forward is by supporting Indigenous-led businesses and organizations, and making intentional choices about where we spend our time and money.

Donate to organizations support Survivors, and Indigenous-led institutions that work to preserve and teach the language and culture that the Canadian government tried to destroy.

But from Indigenous artists, makers, and businesses.

Seek out Indigenous owned and operated tourism and cultural experiences.

In Ontario, that could mean booking a stay or experience at Chiefswood Park in Six Nations of the Grand River, visiting Madahoki Farm in Ottawa, or having an unforgettable meal at a Naagan in Owen Sound.

And keep learning. Read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and consider where you, as an individual, professional, employer or community member, have a role to play.

September 30 is a day of remembrance and reflection.

Reconciliation is the work that continues after it.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Across Canada, gatherings, ceremonies, walks, discussions, educational programs and other events are taking place to mark the day.

We encourage you to find out what is happening in your own community, and take part.

Attend a local event. Listen to Survivors, Elders, Indigenous leaders and community members who have chosen to share their knowledge and experiences. Participate in a commemorative walk or gathering. Visit a Friendship Centre or Indigenous cultural organization offering public programming. Join one of the many events and learning opportunities available online.

However you choose to participate, take the opportunity to listen and learn.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is not simply a date to acknowledge. It is an opportunity to engage with the truth of Canada’s residential school system, to honour those affected by it, and to be better understand the work that reconciliation asks of all of us.

Today, we honour the Survivors of Residential Schools, their families, and the children who never returned home.

Tomorrow is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

For more than a century, Indigenous children were forcibly separated from their families and communities through the residential school system. Many were subjected to systematic abuse and neglect, and prohibited from speaking their languages. Many also never made it home.

Reconciliation cannot coexist with the denial or deliberate distortion of residential school history. We must listen to Survivors, learn from the historical record, challenge misinformation when we encounter it, and understand how the policies and attitudes behind the residential school system continue to affect Indigenous peoples, families, and communities today.

Tomorrow, many of us will wear orange.

We encourage you to do more. Listen, learn, and make room for the truths that orange shirts represent.

For anyone looking to spend some time learning before September 30th, start with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, as well as the stories and educational resources shared by the Orange Shirt Society.

Today KLB Consulting was excited to celebrate the expansion of the proposed National Urban Park (NUP) in Windsor with the addition of the former Windsor Raceway lands. The former Windsor Raceway lands are 19 hectares and will expand the proposed park to 443.6 hectares, making it Canada’s largest and newest urban protected area. KLB is supporting Caldwell First Nation in defining its role as a collaborative partner in the NUP and helping to negotiate a co-governance agreement with Parks Canada. We are so excited to support the Nation in its goals of advancing sovereignty in their traditional territory, building collaborative relationships, and long term protection of the rare and threatened species in the Windsor Region.

Passionate about food, culture, and culinary arts? Indigenous Tourism Ontario is seeking 8 youth, ages 16–29, for a unique culinary mentorship opportunity alongside professional chefs.

Participants will:

From land use and development to cultural services, housing, and environmental stewardship, UNDRIP provides a framework for doing things differently—and doing them right.

Through Call to Action #43, municipalities are being called to put these principles into action.

The City of Brantford is engaging Indigenous residents and organizations to help define what that should look like locally.
