🚨 **Local Enforcement Trends: What Alberta Employers Need to Watch This Quarter** 🚨

Staying ahead of enforcement trends isn’t just about compliance — it’s about protecting your workers, your reputation, and your bottom line.

Here’s what we’re seeing across Alberta right now 👇

🔍 **Increased Focus on Inspections**
Worksite inspections are ramping up — especially in construction and high-risk industries. Make sure your documentation, hazard assessments, and training records are up to date.

⚠️ **Working at Heights & Fall Protection**
A continued top priority. Employers must ensure proper equipment, training, and supervision are in place — no shortcuts.

🚧 **Mobile Equipment & Traffic Management**
Incidents involving vehicles and equipment are under scrutiny. Clear procedures, spotters, and worker awareness are key.

🧱 **Silica Dust & Exposure Control**
Enforcement around silica is tightening. If your work involves cutting, grinding, or drilling — your controls must be solid and documented.

📋 **Supervisor Competency**
Supervisors are being held accountable. They must be trained, competent, and actively managing safety on-site.

💡 **Pro Tip:**
Don’t wait for an inspection to find the gaps. A proactive audit can save time, money, and stress.

At **Ok Koral Services**, we help Alberta companies stay ahead of enforcement trends with COR audits, gap assessments, and practical safety solutions.

🔨 Designing a Risk-Based Safety Program That Actually Fits Your Crews AND Your Budget

Most safety programs fail for one simple reason — they’re built for someone else’s company.

At Ok Koral Services, we design practical, risk-based Health & Safety Management Systems specifically for small-to-medium Alberta employers (especially in construction and reinforcing steel).

Here’s how we do it differently:

✅ We start with YOUR real risks — not a generic template
✅ We focus on high-impact hazards first (working at heights, rebar handling, struck-by, silica, mobile equipment, etc.)
✅ We create simple, easy-to-follow procedures your crew will actually use — not thick binders that collect dust
✅ We scale everything to your size and budget — whether you have 10 or 50 employees
✅ We make sure it meets AMHSA/COR requirements without unnecessary complexity or cost

The result? A safety program that protects your workers, passes audits, qualifies you for WCB rebates, and doesn’t break the bank or slow down production.

If you’re tired of “one-size-fits-all” safety systems that don’t fit your jobsite reality, let’s talk.

We help companies like Ultimate Reinforcing build practical safety programs that work in the real world.

🌟 What an incredible day last week at ALIGN Association's 3rd Annual OHS Showcase Day! 🌟
I was honored to represent Ok Koral Services and present at this fantastic event on March 5th at the stunning Grey Eagle Resort & Casino (Tsuut'ina Nation, Calgary).
Sharing practical tips and strategies for building strong, sustainable Occupational Health & Safety programs in Alberta's community services sector was so rewarding—especially connecting with all the dedicated safety pros, leaders, and frontline folks who make workplaces safer every day. The discussions on psychological safety, leadership, violence prevention, and real-world OHS culture were spot-on and energizing!
A massive thank you to the ALIGN team for putting together such an inspiring, collaborative day focused on healthier teams and stronger communities. Events like this are why we love what we do. 💙
At Ok Koral Services, we're all about helping Alberta employers (especially in community services, non-profits, and beyond) with COR/SECOR audits, custom OHS programs, training, and ongoing support to achieve real safety excellence. If you were there and have thoughts from the day, or if you're thinking about leveling up your safety game—drop a comment or send me a message! I'd love to chat.
What was YOUR favorite takeaway from OHS Showcase Day? 👇

Your Alberta COR/SECOR Timeline — Explained
🗓️ Your Alberta COR/SECOR Timeline — Explained (No fluff, just facts for busy employers)
Getting Certificate of Recognition (COR) or Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR) in Alberta isn't instant — but understanding the realistic timeline helps you plan smarter and avoid surprises.
SECOR (for ≤10 employees) — The faster path for small teams:

Register with a Certifying Partner + complete required training: 1–3 months
Build/implement your health & safety system + gather at least 3 months of real documentation (hazard assessments, toolbox talks, inspections, etc.): 3–6 months total from start
Submit self-assessment for review: 2–8 weeks for approval
Total realistic timeline: 4–9 months if starting from scratch (faster if you already have basics in place)

COR (for 11+ employees) — More robust, with external audit:

Choose Certifying Partner, register, complete required COR courses (LEG, ATP, etc.): 2–4 months
Develop & fully implement your OHS management system + collect 3–12 months of evidence (many partners want solid proof it's working): 6–12+ months implementation phase
Book & complete external audit (on-site review, interviews, observations): 1–2 months scheduling + audit day(s)
Address any findings, QA review by partner: 4–12 weeks
Total realistic timeline: 9–18+ months (12+ is common for new systems; government site notes 12 months or more without an existing program)

Key tips:

The biggest delays? Waiting for enough documented evidence — start tracking NOW!
October–December is peak season for audits — book early.
COR often unlocks WCB rebates, better contracts, and lower insurance — worth the effort.

At Okkoral.com, we guide small & mid-size Alberta employers through practical, compliant timelines that fit your real operations — no cookie-cutter nonsense.

🔍 What REALLY comes up in an occupational safety audit? A no-BS look for Alberta workplaces
Thinking about getting an OHS audit (or prepping for COR/SECOR)? Here's what audits often uncover in Alberta businesses—especially smaller and mid-sized ones:

Incomplete or outdated hazard assessments (the #1 gap—many sites miss everyday risks like slips, overexertion, or improper chemical storage)
Weak or missing training records (workers not fully competent on equipment, emergency procedures, or hazard controls)
Inadequate incident reporting & investigation (near-misses ignored, no root-cause follow-up)
Poor PPE management or maintenance issues (equipment not inspected, guarded machines lacking lockout/tagout)
Gaps in emergency preparedness (outdated plans, no drills, first aid kits unchecked)
Documentation shortfalls (no clear policies, inspection logs, or worker involvement tracking)

These aren't rare "gotchas"—they're common findings that lead to orders, penalties, or higher injury rates if unaddressed. The good news? Spotting them early through an honest audit turns vulnerabilities into strengths and builds a stronger safety culture.
At Okkoral.com, we help Alberta employers design practical programs that close these gaps before they become problems. Ready for a transparent safety review that actually works for your team and your business?
