School is back, and kids are once again spending more time online for homework, games and connecting with friends. It’s a good time for parents and caregivers to revisit a few online safety basics at home.
1. Remind kids not to share personal details such as their address, school, phone number or location.
2. Help them create strong, unique passwords and explain why passwords shouldn’t be shared with friends.
3. Encourage them to pause and ask before clicking unfamiliar links or downloading something new.
4. Review privacy settings together and talk about only accepting requests from people they actually know.
5. Make sure they know they can always come to you if a message, image or request makes them uncomfortable, without worrying that they’ll be in trouble.
Online safety doesn’t have to be one big conversation. Small, regular check-ins can help kids build safer habits as they learn, play and connect.
