Riddari was out in full force all day Saturday and Friday evening visiting various student residents and providing By-Law education. This service helped maintain a safe and responsible HOCO event, bringing the over all AMP's to only 136 with Paramedics only transporting a total of 23 individuals. This shows that educating the community on how to remain with in the confineds of the law can reduce infractions and still maintain an enjoyable environment. Yes the event was unsanctioned, but people were respectful and it shows in the numbers with less than 1% of the people attending the event having an interaction with first responders resulting in a ticket or hospitization.
UNSANCTIONED STREET PARTY TASK FORCE UPDATE
LONDON, ON (October 2, 2025) – The London Police Service had a busy weekend, working with community partners to address unsanctioned gatherings. Large parties occurred in several areas including Broughdale Avenue, Huron Street, Richmond Street, and Mill Street. Over the weekend, our Communications Section managed an unprecedented number of calls to the 9-1-1 center, nearly doubling the usual call volume. This surge can be partly attributed to unsanctioned parties.
On Saturday, it is estimated that 15,000 to 18,000 people attended these gatherings, with around 5,000 to 7,000 people remaining into the evening. This necessitated the closure of several roads, including Broughdale Avenue and Huron Street, and lane reductions on Richmond Street to ensure the safety of those in the area.
“Most of the young adults we encountered were cooperative with emergency services and partner agencies. Our downtown bars were at capacity and sidewalks full as people enjoyed the mild weather well into the evening” says Acting Superintendent David Pratt, of the London Police Service. “We would like to thank the members of the LPS, our community partner agencies, and out-of-town police services (including members from Windsor, Hamilton and the Ontario Provincial Police), for providing assistance throughout the day and evening.”
Enforcement teams consisted of members of the London Police Service, City of London Municipal Compliance and London Fire Inspectors. In total, over the weekend, 136 Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) were issued in relation to public nuisance parties, excessive noise, and parking charges.
In addition to the previously mentioned charges, numerous verbal warnings were issued to individuals as officers worked to control the crowd and ensure the safety of participants, the community, and officers.
Middlesex-London Paramedic Services reported transporting a total of 23 people on Friday and Saturday from the area due to these unsanctioned gatherings. Additionally, there was a 15% increase in calls throughout the night and a 29% overall increase, again partly due to unsanctioned gatherings. Although no tickets were issued related to the Ontario Fire Code, London Fire Prevention Inspectors responded to open-air burning complaints in the Broughdale Avenue area later in the evening.
