Happy Friday Everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I am still doing in-home services for custom orthotics, compression socks, shoe modifications, or just footwear and footcare advice! I come to your home when it is convenient for you! No having to fit your appointment in during regular 9-5 working hours. No referral required for the assessment. I can help with toe, balls of feet, bunions, arch, heel, ankle, shin, knee, hip or back pain!

Orthotics and compression socks are generally covered under extended health benefits. Check with your provider if you want to know your coverage! Direct billing available with greenshield or blue cross.

Custom orthotics are $450. That includes your initial biomechanical assessment with a gait analysis, your fitting appointment, and any additional follow up appointments to adjust your orthotics and make sure that they are comfortable and helping with your pain/issues.

No coverage? I can modify your footbeds to add arch support, metatarsal support, heel padding and much more! Just inquire with what you’re looking for and I can give you a quote!

⭐️ Custom orthotics $450 per pair

⭐️ Compression socks 20-30mmhg knee length starting at $120 per pair

⭐️ Compression socks 20-30mmhg Thigh length starting at $150 per pair.

Foot Fact/FAQ Friday
Q: Why do the front of my legs hurt when I walk/run?

A: If you have pain around your shins, it may be considered shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome).

The shin (or the front part of the leg) contains a few different groupings of muscles. Shin splints typically cause pain on the inside of the shin, but pain may also be felt in the muscle groupings on the very front of the shin, or even on the outside. In all these cases, the shin pain may be caused from the way your feet are moving.
The muscles around the shin attach to different parts of the foot, assisting your foot while you walk. If your feet roll excessively in or out when you walk, the muscles around the shin have to work harder to control the feet. Over time the muscles can be overworked and this leads to pain.
It is important that you always warm up before starting your exercise and you should start off a new fitness regime slowly. Give your body time to get used to a new activity before doing it for too long or at too high of an intensity.
A Canadian Certified Pedorthist will help determine if support and/or a change in shoe is recommended for your shin pain. The proper support can help reduce the stress on the shin muscles and relieve pain. To find a Canadian Certified Pedorthist please visit www.pedorthic.ca/.

Is your child’s foot developing at the rate it should be? Flat feet are normal between the ages of 1 and 5, but should be improving bit by bit every year until age 6 at which point the heel should be vertical.

Your child may not be in any pain, but that doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be treated.

Ask yourself these questions:
- Does your child fatigue easily?
- Are they slower than other kids?
- Does your child complain of growing pains? (Although common, they are a sign that something is wrong)
- Does your child all of a sudden not want to participate in activities?
- Do you have foot, knee, hip, or back issues?
Feet are genetic!! There is a good possibility your child will suffer from some of the same issues as you as they age!
-Are they age 6 and older but still flat footed?

Intervention at an early age is very important!

Another day, another pair of orthotics for a client!

Orthotics aren’t just for people with flat feet. This particular client had trouble rolling out (or supinating as we call it in the Pedorthic world). This caused pain up the bottom half of the outside lower leg with walking and activity. In this case, we added support to the outside of the orthotic to help tilt the foot to roll slightly inward during gait (walking).

Rolling out on your feet? Let me help you roll back in!

A shoe modification for a client who had injured their ankle in an accident to the point where the ankle was fused in a ‘rolled out’ position, and with a large ~2” leg length difference. The outside of the shoe has been built up with stiff material to prevent rolling out of the ankle, and a lift has been added to balance out the leg length difference.

Know anyone who could use a lift?

With the dreaded ‘S’ word showing its face on the ground this morning, that also means that the end of the year is approaching fast. If you are thinking about getting some orthotics before your benefits expire or are in need of a new pair, now would be the time to act! It usually takes 2-3 weeks to have them ready.

Orthotics can typically last anywhere from 1-4 years and it depends on several factors, including but not limited to: your job, weight, work surface, activity level, how often you wear them, and materials the orthotics are made out of. A good way to tell if you need new ones is if you start developing pain again, the materials are wearing out, or they don’t feel all that comfortable anymore.

Contact me today if you would like an assessment or are looking for a new pair before the year is up!
