LARG*feed is a security threat feed designed by LARG*net and tailored to the unique needs of our membership.

We deployed “honeypots” pretending to be Exchange Servers, files servers, and other common services to collect information on malicious behaviours and their originating source IP addresses.

We beta tested the threat feed for TWO YEARS and are highly confident in the results! With multiple honeypots deployed and several members already subscribed to LARG*feed, we collect:

➡️180,000+ Indicators and
➡️Block over 50,000 potential incidents every day.

The threat intelligence is highly localized and precise because the honeypots are deployed within LARG*net and participating members’ IP space. Leveraging these tools to immediately blocks attackers requires no extra effort by your on-site teams.

This service costs $2,000/year and covers:

➡️Hardware
➡️Maintenance
➡️Development costs.

LARG*net is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. Membership is open to any organization, public or private, from any sector

By interconnecting multiple organizations LARG*net enables members to share bandwidth and take advantage of any volume discounts it negotiates.

All member organizations have access to the Internet and LARG*net can increase the capacity of its connections to ensure overall capacity is met. Similar bulk connectivity would be advantageous to organizations in London's surrounding communities.

Did you know Canadians lost $567 million to fraud scams in 2023 alone?! That's an increase of $37 million from 2022!

What can you do to protect your organization?

1. Know who you are dealing with. Watch out for fake invoices as scammers often use legitimate company names. Always have a list of your business contacts so you know what's real.

2. Limit the amount of employees that have the authority to pay bills and approve purchases.

3. Don't give out information through unsolicited calls.

4. Watch out for larger than normal orders, orders for expensive items, or multiple orders for the same product. These could be fraudulent orders.

A lot has changed over the last 20 years, including fraud, as it has evolved with the digital age.

Learn about the evolution of fraud, as we explore the most common types below.👇👇👇

Job Fraud
Then: 20 years ago you would see a fake job in the newspaper or job board online.
Now: Today there are many fake job offers sent through email and social media.

Investment Fraud
Then: The majority of fake investments were ponzi/pyramid scheme related.
Now: Since the development of cryptocurrency we have seen a rise in crypto scams.

Phishing
Then: Phishing was relatively new, with cyber criminals posing as financial institutions or trusted companies through email.
Now: It has become very sophisticated and comes in the forms of emails, texts and DMs with the use of malicious links. Scammers not only want your personal information but try to infect your devices with malware.

Protect yourself by:
1. Never click on a link or message from an unknown source.
2. Always be cautious when investing. Verify investment companies. Research the team and feasibility of the project.
3. If you receive a suspicious phone call hang up!

Common payment methods fraudsters use in 2024:

1. Bank Wire Transfers are a top method used when fraudsters are requesting more than $10,000.
2. Cryptocurrency is an easily exchangeable form of currency. Scammers commonly ask for this type of payment for investment fraud, job fraud and extortion.
3. E-transfer is another very common method which is used in fraud types like rental, merchandise, service and romance scams.

What can you do to prevent fraud?

1. Be careful if you are sending cryptocurrency, once a transaction has been completed, it is highly unlikely for the payment to be reversed.
2. If you are a business owner, ensure a detailed payment procedure is in place.
3. If you shop online regularly always use payment methods like a credit card as they offer fraud prevention.
