Nobody warns you how ordinary the turning points look.
At 40, skipping a walk doesn’t feel important.
Going to bed late doesn’t feel important.
Losing a little strength doesn’t feel important.
Eating badly for a week doesn’t feel important.
You still get up.
You still go to work.
You still feel mostly fine.
That’s what makes health so easy to postpone.
The consequences often arrive much later than the choices.
But there’s another side to this.
The walk you take today matters later.
The strength you build today matters later.
The sleep you protect tonight matters later.
The people you make time for matter later.
We spend years saving money for a future version of ourselves.
Perhaps we should save some strength, mobility and health for them too.
Your older self is already living on what you do today.
