On November 15, 2023, in Ottawa, the Government of Canada reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that eligible newcomers receive the necessary support and services for successful integration into the Canadian economy and their new communities.

Yesterday, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, initiated the national call for proposals for settlement and resettlement funding. This initiative aims to provide funding for numerous organizations offering essential services to newcomers across Canada (excluding Quebec) for a duration of five years.

This year's proposal emphasizes key areas within settlement and resettlement services. It includes investments supporting truth and reconciliation goals, establishing a Francophone integration pathway for French-speaking newcomers outside Quebec, and enhancing support for organizations serving racialized communities, 2SLGBTQI+, and other underrepresented groups.

Service provider organizations play a crucial role in welcoming newcomers, including refugees, in communities nationwide. They equip newcomers with the necessary tools, resources, and information, such as language training, job assistance, and connections with established immigrants, Canadians, and Indigenous Peoples. These services facilitate newcomers' integration and success in Canada, contributing to the creation of welcoming communities by supporting employers, schools, and other organizations.

For detailed information on eligibility and the application process for the call for proposals, please visit our website. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2024.

A news update about Canada’s newly redesigned passport, recently, the Immigration Department received complaints from many people that the cover of its new passport was curled and damaged. Canada's new passport has recently received frequent complaints. In hot and humid weather, the cover of the passport will curl and cause damage. Two pairs of families have given their comments with their experiences with the new passport, stating that "It looked like something came out of a washing machine," "I never had a problem with this type of roll with my old passport," he said. "The old passports are still very strong and stiff."

A spokesperson for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) said that due to the way it is manufactured, the new Canadian passport is sensitive to heat and humidity, which can cause the cover to curl. The Department of Immigration also said: "The previous generation of passports contained an additional layer (on the cover) to protect the electronic chip." But in the new passport, an electronic chip made of polycarbonate material is located in the data page, meaning the page is strong, while the cover is thinner. According to the Department of Immigration, the curling of the cover will not affect the functionality and durability of the passport.

However, while Immigration Canada says the curled passports are still valid, people who are affected still do not think the issue is acceptable as an official document. While one might wonder whether the issue with the passport cover would lead to a recall of the documents, at least in Canada, "there are no plans to recall the new passports as there are no defects," the department said.

As of last month in mid-July, the government of Canada and its immigration department IRCC has launched a new immigration stream for people and resistances from the United States who are holding H-1B visa to apply for an new immigration stream which allows applicants to hold an open work permit to work in Canada. Now, a month later, more news and updates are following up this pathway as highly skilled people who are holding an H-1B visa are hoping for an expansion of this program.

This program is partly aiming for workers who are laid off in Silicon Valley’s recent downturn. As the US's visa system is difficult and slow, Canada’s quick actions on getting more highly skilled foreign workers from the states is a massive step in helping and boosting Canada’s economic growth.

As the IRCC’s primary goal of total application for this stream is 10,000 and was surprisingly fulfilled within 48 hours, people are now foreseeing the program might got expanded and the government of Canada might be more interested in high skill workers from the US based on its similar working environment and culture.

As of August 8th, 2023. The government of Canada has launched a new pilot program called Recognized Employer Pilot (REP). It is a program aimed to help and ease the pressure of the ongoing labour shortage in the country with hiring more foreign nationals for Canada jobs under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP).

This program was announced by Randy Boissonnault, the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages yesterday in Delta, British Columbia. With REP, not just helping eligible Canadian employers easier to find their foreign skilled workers but through this recognition it allows them to maintain the highest standards for worker protections.

The REP will be implemented in two phases, the first one will be starting in September 2023 for employers in the Primary Agriculture stream. And the second application will open in January 2024 and allows all other industries to participate. Notice, both streams will end in September 2024.

This being said, we can expect more foreign nationals and skilled workers are coming into Canada in the next 3 to 5 years for sure. And if you are currently in progress of immigrating and need a criminal record check from RCMP, we might be the best fit for you. Feel free to visit our website or call us for more information.

As of July 26, 2023. Marc Miller has become Canada’s newest minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Marc Miller served as the minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations since 2021 and he was a boyhood friend with the prime minister Justin Trudeau. Miller earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in political science from the University of Montreal, and graduated from McGill University Faculty of Law in 2001.

Apart from his excellent portfolio and experience, lots of people living in Canada and working on progress in immigrating to Canada have been shouting out to the new minister of IRCC to bring some new changes or upgrade the future immigration level plan as well as the current system.

After the pandemic, the government of Canada and IRCC have been working hard on bringing families together and fulfilling the country’s economic needs and shortages. However, more needs and concerns are yet to be done. Such as both citizenships and PR card renewal, the processing time could go up to 19 months and 3 months or more which have been a very discouraging process for applicants to wait and block their way of planning their personal life and schedule. Also Canadian Experience Class (CEC) of Express Entry (EE) hasn’t been picked or drawn since the year of 2021 which left large amount of CEC candidates and the PostGraduate Working Permit (PGWP) holder in a very confused and struggled state for them to think about their future.

With new immigration minister Marc Miller, we hope to see a more sufficient and bright future for both immigrants and IRCC.

As of July 18th, 2023. IRCC has launched a new immigration stream for people and resistances from the United States (US) who are holding H-1B visa to apply for an open work permit to work in Canada. For now, it is only a temporary and a small program which aims to meet the target of 10,000 applications in a first come first serve manner and it has been reached for the first two days.

This new Canadian work permit not only provides a new pathway for foreigners fighting and working hard in the US but also demonstrates that Canada recognizes the problem of the H-1B visa and Canada wants to grasp this opportunity to get more highly-skilled workers as well as having the American working experienced people to come.

Though this program has already filled with IRCC’s target of 10,000 applicants, there are future hopes that the government of Canada would reopen and expand the limitation of this program.

Yesterday July 11th, 2023. IRCC and the Canadian government have announced they will continually support immigration pathway for Hong Kong residents.

In the year of 2021, IRCC have created 2 pathways for Hong Kong residents to immigrate to Canada, ie Stream A & Stream B. Where Stream B is open to former Hong Kong residents who have graduated from a postsecondary institution inside Canada or proof of foreign educational credentials. Now, IRCC has just announced that this educational requirement is going to be removed as of August 15th, 2023 which means that candidates would only have to have at least 1 year of working experience within Canada to apply for permanent residency.

As Hong Kong residents are one of Canada’s largest sources of immigrants, the expansion of Stream B helps to fill Canadian job market labour gaps.

Our company is here to help Hong Kong residents in Canada to get their digital fingerprints for both Hong Kong Police clearance and PR purposes. If you have any questions about fingerprints feel free to contact us via phone or email for detailed information.
