SHORELINE CLEANUP UPDATE

Haawa everyone for your patience as I navigate through everything. I’m working on this project mostly on my own, but a lot of progress has been made. I’ll begin calling people in soon to sign contracts and confirm crews.

Cleanup areas will be assigned along the coast from Masset to Rose Spit and down the East Coast, with additional focus (weather permitting) on Masset Harbour and Naden Harbour. At this time, there will be no overnight trips.

All trucks and boats will be working in pairs for safety, and truck owners must carry a minimum of $2 million comprehensive coverage. Please also stay aware of tides and changing conditions while working near the shoreline.

A marine safety protocol is currently being developed by Emergency Services to guide our boat operators and crews while working on the water.

I’ve had other priorities on my desk but will be getting back to everyone shortly.
Thank you again for your continued patience and support as we pull this together.

SHORELINE CLEANUP UPDATE

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share a quick update...

Elliot Jones Sr. will be reaching out to everyone who has contacted us about joining the shoreline cleanup. He’ll be asking about your availability, the capacity and capabilities of your vehicles, boats, and equipment, and what certifications or skills you have.

You can also text this information to 250.626.7155 please don’t forget to include your name. I have a number of phone numbers but no names attached, so this will help us stay organized.

Please be patient and kind as we move through this process. This is a large project that will run for about a month, and we’re doing our best to organize everyone as quickly as possible.

This is my first time coordinating a cleanup of this size, and it’s also new for Elliot. We’re both learning as we go — so let’s all remember to support one another and keep the energy positive. Lateral violence or disrespect will not be tolerated.

We’re moving fast and hope to have crews mobilized by the end of the week. Details about pay, tasks, and cleanup areas will be shared when you’re called in to sign contracts and attend orientation.

Haaw'a (Thank you) for your patience, teamwork, and commitment to keeping Haida Gwaii clean and beautiful.

SHORELINE CLEANUP UPDATE – THANK YOU!

We’ve had a strong response from community members interested in working and offering trucks and equipment for the shoreline cleanup — haawa for stepping up!

We’re currently reviewing all names, resumes, and texts to start matching people to the right roles. We’ll be reaching out soon to confirm crews, training requirements, and start dates.

Land-based teams will be working between Cemetery Beach and Rose Spit, and marine-based crews will be deployed to remote locations (weather permitting).

If you haven’t already, please send your resume or a quick summary of your work experience to [email protected]

Let’s work together to clean up our shoreline and take care of our coast.
