Forest fire season is in effect on the Island of Newfoundland beginning today, May 1, until September 30. Forest fire season will be in effect in Labrador from May 15 to September 30.

During forest fire season, a permit is required to burn vegetation, wood or paper. Permits are available from provincial Forest Management District Offices.

Permits are not required for campfires; however, when planning an outdoor fire, it is important to check the daily Forest Fire Hazard Map to determine the level of forest fire risk in your area.
Government stresses that following the unprecedented 2025 wildfire season, it is essential to remain vigilant and prepared for any challenges the 2026 forest fire season may bring.

As expressed in the Town of Meadows post, we send our sincere appreciation to GlobalMedic (the respected Canadian charity David McAntony Gibson Foundation) for donating this most valuable wildland fire fighting tool to support protecting our community and surrounding areas, and wherever our support is needed.

Our wildland areas are fragile and vulnerable, and sometimes difficult to access with large fire fighting vehicles should the resources be needed; so, the partnership between GlobalMedic and our provincial Fire and Emergency Services to enhance rural wildfire response has definitely come to the rescue. This valuable mobile fire fighting unit, which can be carried in the bed of a pickup or in a trailer, is a major tool in our fire fighting toolbox.
