Scientists in the state of Vermont have spent the summer spreading Dutch elm disease to thousands of trees. It's an experiment to see if a new generation of elms might have resistance to a plague that has been decimating elm populations in the U.S. and Canada for decades.

Dutch elm disease (DED) is on the move and continuing to head further west. This site 45 km west of Saskatoon has dozens (i.e. likely well over 100) of dead and dying American elm trees. Stay tuned for the official lab results. If your community would like to start annual DED surveys please don't hesitate to contact Living Tree and we will send a well trained and very experienced crew to your municipality. You don't want this disease to enter your urban forest.
