Doing some big timbers this week for friends. This Douglas fir has been an absolute toad to cut with the sap but we got it done. Got some absolutely beautiful lumber and slabs with lots of clear or select at minimum. First I make an 18”x18” cant 14’ long then cut them into 3 18”x6” then finally down to 6”x6”. My back has been toast lately so luckily I’m able to use this handy mini excavator to do the hard part. Anyone looking I would definitely recommend one of these machines. You can pick them up super cheap at Richie’s.

Well it’s been a long crazy year with tons of ups and downs and a long time since I posted anything here’s some of we have been working on lately. Huge shoutout and thanks to Kyle Hobbs at Coastal Tree Works and Michael Douglas at Ken's Roofing Supplies for helping me with these massive Douglas Fir and Elm logs. Well after a long time away from the mill I finally got all the maintenance done. 2 new plugs, oil filter oil change belt air filter clean fuel filter high grade gas re level and square ect the mill is cutting better then ever. I have been cutting like crazy for the last 3 weeks and have amassed a ton of cool new stock. Old growth cedar coffee tables and side table slabs, guitar tone wood, huge arbutus dining tables and much more. Lots of posts to come finally. First here’s some of the old cedar I’ve been cutting. The last pieces are a weird idea I had for kind of shattered shelves for a bathroom or something rustic like that.

Just out exploring beautiful Vancouver Island today with my wife and we found a couple more trees I thought were well worth sharing. This one I believe is called the fortress giant. It’s a breathtaking old cedar covered in burls and compressed grain with beautiful quilting anyway it’s sacred and not for slabs lol what an honour to go see these babies though. We’re going to explore all the big trees on the island.
