Another pretty cool project for Reid’s Excavation. 🚜

Spent last evening and today helping a local farmer in Tiny breathe some new life into this old nostalgic barn.

Over the years, parts of the foundation and old log wall had started to sag, droop and deteriorate. We carefully removed some of the rotten wall, replaced sections of the footings, and are rebuilding the wall to help stabilize the structure and hopefully give this old barn another 10–20 years of life.

There’s something pretty special about working on these old barns and seeing the history they carry. Not every job is about building something brand new — sometimes it’s about preserving what’s already there.

I really enjoy working with local people on projects like this. Every job is a little different, and getting the chance to help preserve a piece of local history makes the work that much more rewarding.

Looking forward to seeing this one standing strong again. 🇨🇦

🌳 Getting the Playground Ready for a New School Year! 🛝

Reid’s Excavation was happy to help get this local school playground freshened up and ready for the kiddos!

We delivered and installed 18 yards of fresh wood chips throughout the playground, added new sand to the sandbox, and cleaned everything up so the play area is looking fresh, safe, and ready for the upcoming school year. 🍂

It’s always rewarding to do a project that directly benefits the community and, most importantly, the kids who get to enjoy it!

A Little Family Time ❤️

Today’s job was a little different — I brought my grandma along for the ride! 😊

We picked up a couple loads of A gravel, headed over to the job, and got the driveway topped up and spread out. The client was happy, the driveway looks great, and best of all, Grandma and I got to spend some quality time together.

It’s pretty cool when you can mix a little work with some family time and make a good day out of it. ❤️

Another great day for Reid’s Excavation! 🚜

Made a little trip up to Gravenhurst to pick up some beautiful granite steps for a new entranceway project for a repeat client I’ve really enjoyed working with.

We’ve developed a great rhythm working together, and it makes these projects that much more enjoyable. The thumb on the machine definitely came in handy today too — it gives me the ability to carefully manipulate some surprisingly large pieces of stone and get them where they need to go.

Installing granite steps is definitely not a quick-and-easy job. There’s a lot of measuring, spacing, leveling, adjusting and re-adjusting to get everything sitting just right. It can be tedious work, but when it all comes together, it’s worth it.

Another productive day, another project moving forward, and another great day doing what I love.

🌲 Another great morning out in Horseshoe Valley! 🌲

Had a pretty cool little job this morning working on a steep slope right beside this absolutely beautiful retaining wall. The project was simple but precise — excavating a small area for a concrete pad that will support a set of industrial steel stairs.

Quick, clean, and efficient, and another job checked off the list! 💪

It’s always a pleasure working out in Horseshoe Valley. The landscape is incredible, the properties are beautiful, and the people are always great to work with.

Another beautiful addition for a returning client! 👌

We were able to pick up these four beautiful granite steps for a client we’ve had the pleasure of working with throughout the spring and summer. It’s always great when a project turns into an ongoing relationship, and we’ve had a lot of fun working together along the way.

We’re looking forward to getting these installed and completing another part of the project, while doing our best to keep the costs as reasonable as possible.

The granite is even more impressive in person, and I can’t wait to get some pictures once everything is finished!

🚛 Thinking Outside the Box at REID’S Excavation!

Last week, a gentleman reached out with a bit of an unusual request — he needed a Jeep frame delivered to an area past Hamilton.

While this isn’t something we normally do, we were able to come to a mutual understanding that worked well for both of us, and we were happy to help get it where it needed to go.

It turned out to be a great delivery, and it got us thinking — if you have something that needs to be hauled, we may be able to help!

Some jobs really put both the operator and the machine to the test.

Today I got a call from a contractor to remove several large tree stumps that were right in the way of a new home addition. The work area was extremely tight, with three or four stumps clustered together. It pushed my machine to its limits, and after nearly three hours of digging, prying, and a fair bit of frustration, I finally managed to break them up and get them out.

There were definitely moments when I thought I’d have to bring in a much larger machine, but sticking with it saved the client the added expense of mobilizing heavier equipment.

That’s the reality of excavation—sometimes a compact machine is all you need, and sometimes it’s right on the edge of what it can handle. Today, persistence paid off, and another project is ready for its next step.
