The Millet and District Lions Club parade is just about to start (part of Millet Rec & Ag Society’s Harvest fair festivities) and we hope you’ll come out to celebrate our community and our amazing groups.

Then, after the parade, check out MFD at the Agriplex at 1 pm for a vehicle extrication demonstration - we’re going to cut up a car!

Mother Nature told us she’s going to turn off the light drizzle in minutes, so we hope to see you out for all the festivities today!!

Our friends at Hillside Community Club 2022 are having a fundraiser BBQ in the parking lot on highway 2A next to the railroad tracks, and our own retired Captain Ouellette is there with one of our trucks, to help out and maybe even provide some tours of the truck. What better day for a BBQ to support a local cause??

If you have a vehicle, RV or trailer that you really just don’t want anymore, let us know! We’re on the hunt for vehicles to use for extrication practices!

What we’ll get from you:
1) your vehicle
2) hours of training opportunities - we will cut it, pry it, smash it and otherwise demolish it.

What you’ll get from us:
1) an eyesore off your property,
2) a thank you from MFD,
3) peace of mind knowing your donation is helping us to train!

Earlier today, MFD responded to a single vehicle collision just south of Millet on Hwy 2A - our 102nd call of 2026. Thankfully, injuries were minor, although the holiday trailer and pickup towing it were irreparably damaged. But you likely know that, thanks to all the photos and videos on social media that were taken by so many passing motorists - many while driving through the scene, no less (yeah, that’s right, we can see you doing it, and we don’t like it).

So, today’s incident is a good time for us to pause, and ask anyone reading this to think twice before posting to social media with photos/videos of scenes, or posting comments or replies (almost always incorrect, by the way) about what happened, who was driving, or what experience the driver had, etc.

If you, or your loved ones, were involved in the incident, would you like it if completely uninformed persons posted unconfirmed and most likely false or heavily skewed/opinionated information on social media? We doubt it.

So please, STOP posting opinions, comments, or assumptions of what happened. It’s ignorant, and it’s insensitive, and to be perfectly blunt, it’s none of your business.

Last night, members of Millet Fire as well as Wetaskiwin Fire Department practiced drafting and water tender operations, in a culdesac at the north end of KD Acres.

We will be conducting additional training at the same location next Wednesday evening, July 29th.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS NEAR TWN 474 and RR 242!!

Millet Fire Department will be conducting training exercises in the culdesac at the north end of KD Acres Subdivision, on July 22 and 29th, and you will see a lot of fire trucks in the area. There is nothing to be worried about, these are simply training events designed to test our skills!

Because of the limited room for us to manoeuvre our apparatus, we would ask you to avoid the area during our training, as there will be several fire trucks coming and going for the duration of the training events.

If you live in KD Acres, Landsdowne Park, Nordic Place, Fairview Heights, or Woodland Estates, please help us tonsured the word! We want to be as minimally invasive to your day as possible!

The staff of the Millet Museum are out and about today, selling 50/50 tickets for their annual fundraiser. If you see the young people in those bright red shirts coming your way, please be sure to consider buying tickets. Our museum provides an amazing gift - preserving and celebrating Millet’s history - so please support them, just as much as you support us!

MFD is excited to be spending the day at Millet Museum, as the Day Family’s 100 Year Farm Exhibit is officially opened. Our very own Captain Derek Day and his family are being recognized and we are here to support them.

We’re also hosting a BBQ and would love to have you join us as we celebrate amazing local family’s who give so much back to our community.
