CANADIAN GOLDEN ALE

APPEARANCE
——————-
Pours a rich golden hue with a luminous clarity. Foam is off-white and bubbly, lacing nicely to the side of the glass as the beer is drank.

AROMA
———-
Nice and dry cracker and cereal aroma from the malt. Slight esters of apple that I would presume are from the yeast. I also pickup notes of grass and straw as the beer opens up more.

FLAVOUR PROFILE
—————————
Clean and refreshing with a flavourful malt forward approach. Has a lager like crispness on the backend with a slight hint of spice character. It’s medium bodied with a lower carbonation than I would expect, but it works well with this beer to give it a little bit of palate weight. Just checked the can and rye is listed as one of the ingredients so that must be that little spice I picked up comes from.

OVERALL

I’m not exactly sure what makes a “Canadian” style Golden Ale, but if this is it, I like it! This is an enjoyable beer that both craft beer fanatics and macro drinkers can both enjoy. If you sound out that synth part from Tom Sawyer while you pour this beer, it adds an extra layer of fun.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve reviewed a beer on this account! I’ve finally found some time today to get to my desk and get some actual work done. Not beer drinking work, but designing products for my shop . Anyways, glad that I had this in my fridge today. “Yummy” by is an incredibly flavourful North East Pale Ale. Pouring a bright and hazy straw yellow, this beer is bursting with sharp tropical fruit flavours, and subtle flowery undertones. I wish I knew which hops were in this one as it’s an interesting and unique profile. Mega juicy on the palete, bits of crackery malt with a firm bitter finish that still manages to come across refreshing. Where has this beer been all my life?! It’s exceptional and you need to have this in your fridge right now.

The craft beer industry has been rocked by hundreds of stories of sexism, misogyny, abuse and assault against women that have come to light on social media — allegations that stand in stark contrast to the feel-good and friendly image the sector has long conveyed.

Double Continuous Blood
By

Pours a hazy dank looking orange. Foam is off yellow and super frothy. It laces beautifully around the edge of the glass.

The first thing that jumps out to me on the nose is papaya. I don’t think that I’ve ever smelled papaya so bold in a beer before, so nice touch. It’s also supported by notes of melon and lychee that are pretty easy to decipher.

A mouthful a double continuous blood is majorly refreshing. The flavours on this beer are definitely a step in a slightly different direction when compared to many other releases by third moon. Tropical hops are front and centre here. This is definitely not a beer that relies on Citra for flavours. I don’t get that same papaya flavour from the nose but I do pickup lots of peach candy and underlying tones of juicy honeydew melon and mango. This beer is distinct and really good.

The aftertaste leaves my mouth with a delicate finish paired with subtle lingering tropical mango flavour. It’s soft and doesn’t leave that lupulin bite that you tend to find in modern hazy beers. Solid!

Red wine barrel aged Brett saison dry hopped with huell melon
Admittedly, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on this account and even longer since I’ve actually had time to properly sit down and review a beer. Life has been interesting lately and my energy has been focused on keeping up with the demands of my family, work and running . Today, the perfect eye of the storm occurred and I had a change to pull something from my cellar to dive into and enjoy.

First off, let me start by saying that I’m extremely biased to saisons and beers with Brett. This beer really sounded like it was right up my alley so my expectations were set pretty high. It did not disappoint.

I gave this bottle a quick inversion followed by a gentle swirl prior to pouring. It’s been sitting patiently on a shelf for a while now so I didn’t want leave anything settled out. Assiduous pours a lemony yellow with a slight bit of haze in the body. The foam presents itself as a frothy layer of big white bubbles. Aromas of bright fruity funk, cantaloupe, grapes, and hints of straw are easily detected. As it warms up, the beer opens up with more lemon pithy notes.

More cantaloupe on the sip, with backing flavours of pithy lemon peel. A solid dose of funky Brett dominates over a supportive malt character. In the finish, I also get notes of wild berries mixed with lingering citrus.

has hit it out if the park again with this excellent doppelbock called Zwei Ziegen (two goats).

Pouring a ruby red, Zwei Ziegen is vibrant and luminous in the glass. Foam is off white and bubbly and longers around the edges while dissipating elsewhere. Aromas of cherry and brown sugar with notes of figs are easily detected on the nose. A mouthful of this beer has flavours of bready malt, cloves, and signature belgian spicy yeast gusto. The finish is relatively dry and I get light bits of toffee and orange lingering in the aftertaste.
