I’m so excited to announce a new partnership!!

From our very first conversation I felt their passion to create a space that sees employees as whole people and that supports them to create more fulfilled and successful employees, individually and collectively.

I’ve been using their app and learning from their other roster of experts as well.

You can now find me there too!!

It’s a really cool platform that offers a unique combination of digital solutions and human support and expertise dedicated to wellbeing and personal development. It’s a great way for employers to contribute to their employee wellbeing.

My goal as always is to make conflict management and resolution tools and strategies as accessible as possible. LiveMore does that and I’m very happy to be working with them.

Need a bright side to all this grey and rain?!?!?

It makes it easy to pull garlic mustard!!!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I could talk about the parallels between garlic mustard and conflict management, or about how doing something like re-framing a disagreement can change how you look at the problem (like the seemingly never ending days of rain we’ve been living with) but instead I’m just going to tell you about garlic mustard.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s highly invasive and can spread like the dickens. It’s not native to our area and it doesn’t benefit our wildlife. In fact it chocks out beneficial plants and even changes the chemistry of the soil making it harder for native plants to grow and feed our wildlife.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The rain has helped it grow and get ready to see. And it’s hella important that you don’t let it go to w**d. Each plant can spread thousands of seeds!!!

Thankfully the ground is nice and juicy which means garlic mustard hunting and pulling is easier. Because you need to pull that taproot out, the damp soil gives you an edge.

I’m a little garlic mustard obsessed. We’ve been fighting it for 4 years now and only finally have it under control.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can learn more about garlic mustard on the web but here’s a really important tip to remember when you’re pulling it; DO NOT COMPOST garlic mustard. Not in your composter, or green bin or yard waste bags. We burn it but you can also put it in black garbage bags away from sun to fully kill it. Because it’s resilient and it will survive if you don’t.

And because I appreciate different perspectives…yes you can eat it. Make yourself some pesto with it if you so desire (I tried and it’s gross) but when your bellies are full put on your wellies and take advantage of the wet wet ground and get it out!!

As usual it’s possible that I’ve lost my mind but hear me out…..there’s a conflict management lesson here.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s the front wheel of my motorcycle. I have a love/hate relationship with my high viz wheels. Well, hate is a strong word but you know the phrase.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Safety first of course means I love the added visibility these rims give me on the road. And honestly I also just love the look. It goes so well with the grey paint scheme.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hate that every speck of dirt is high viz too! Hate that even with some good cleaning using a toothbrush that they still don’t look clean enough.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But the good outweighs the bad. So here’s the conflict lesson…
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we disagree with someone it’s easy to start finding all sorts of other “flaws” or slights. You might be tempted to just give up on them and let the conflict fester. We’re not perfect but we often expect others to be when we’re arguing with them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t throw out the bike because the rims drive you nuts, there’s probably a reasonable compromise if you take the time to work things out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I decided that this level of clean was good enough. I’m happy with it. I could get black rims to make the problem go away but I’d be losing the parts I like about the rims just to lose the parts I don’t like.

You might just need some additional understanding of someone’s perspective. You don’t have to love all the parts of it to understand it and find a way to work together with respect.

Conflict in life and at work is inevitable. How you face it can have a big impact on your productivity, relationships and stress levels. Sometimes you just need a little neutral help to have those conversations. I’m here to help!

Conflict or impending conflict can make us feel helpless so often our instinct is to try to grab some control.

But remember, you can't control everything. You can control how you respond, you cannot control how the other person reacts. You have control over your feelings but you can't try to control how the other person feels.

In fact, the more you try to control the other person the more they are going to push back. Think about how you'd react to someone doing it to you.

Honestly, sometimes we struggle to even feel like we've got ourselves totally under control.

Disagreements don't have to feel out of control, it's all about how you approach them. if you need help approaching a tough conversation, reach out to learn how I can help you get a little more control and start working towards solutions.

Happy Walter Wisdom Wednesday!

Today's wisdom seems very obvious but we all need the reminder. The people you're dealing with today that are on your last nerve? They are a human being, and they are probably doing the best they can in the moment.

We're not always at our best, and neither are they. When we're not at our best we hope that people give us a little bit of grace. We're only human after all and we've got a lot going on......

Well guess what? Same goes for most of the people around us.

Sure, maybe you can give me an example of an exception. And maybe you'd be right, or maybe you don't have all the information about what is going on with that person. Either way, when you show some grace it benefits them and YOU.

So take a deep breathe, remember that some things are just bonkers right now, and find an extra bit of patience for the humans you're dealing with.

Heck, give some to the dogs today too! Or cats I suppose....

👀 I’m afraid of cats! Not because I’ve ever been bit but because I haven’t ever spent much time with cats. I don’t know what to do with a cat.

👀 Every time I type the word conflict on my phone it comes out as cobflict. Every. Time. And yet for some reason autocorrect always leaves me hanging 🤷🏻‍♀️

👀 I love to sing at the top of my lungs while riding my motorcycle. You can’t tell me that a sunny day on a twisty road isn’t made better by belting out some tunes.

👀 I was in my 30’s before I had my first cup of coffee. It was during my old career in tv and we were at a very early morning McDonald’s coffee shoot.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👀 I’ve never been able to touch my toes. There was even a period in my 20s where I was going to yoga 3 times a week and still couldn’t get close. The sweet instructor told me “maybe you just aren’t meant to touch your toes” and that has been my mantra about that ever since!

I’m a human person just like my clients are. It’s why I don’t judge the people I help deal with conflict, I just help them get through it. Difficult conversations can suck, but having neutral, non judgmental also human working with you can make all the difference.
