What is hard water?

Hard water contains high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium. While it’s generally safe to drink, it can cause a variety of issues around your home.

Signs of hard water can include:
• Spots on dishes and glassware
• Soap scum buildup in sinks and showers
• Dry skin and hair after bathing
• Reduced efficiency of appliances like dishwashers and water heaters

Introducing Our New Weekly Series:
The 10 Most Common Water Questions

This week’s question:
Why is my water pressure low?

Low water pressure can also be caused by:
• Clogged pipes
• Hidden leaks
• A faulty pressure regulator
• Mineral buildup from hard water

If your faucets or shower aren’t flowing like they used to, your water system may need attention.

Start by asking yourself if your home has a water softener. If it does, it may need to be rebedded or serviced. If it doesn’t, one of our free water tests can help determine if your home has hard water and whether a softener could help protect your pipes, your appliances & your investment.
