There is a lot of confusion about the Pesticide Certificate of Qualification (CoQ) and Express Entry points. So let’s keep it simple. 🇨🇦

If your Certificate of Qualification is issued by the competent provincial or territorial trade authority and it meets IRCC’s requirements for a valid certificate of qualification in a trade occupation, you may be able to claim Express Entry points.

With a valid CoQ:

👉 CLB 5 or 6 in all four abilities = up to 25 CRS points
👉 CLB 7 or higher in all four abilities = up to 50 CRS points

📌 As of now, there has been no confirmed change removing these CRS points.

But don’t get confused by the name of the certificate alone—the certificate must actually meet the IRCC definition and requirements.

Planning to apply for a Canadian study permit? 🇨🇦 The minimum financial requirement has increased! 🚨

For applications submitted on or after September 1, 2026, a single applicant studying outside Quebec must show at least $23,448 for living expenses.

⚠️ But remember: this amount is separate from your tuition and travel costs.

And here’s something very important—it’s not enough to simply show $23,448 in your bank account. You should also be able to explain where the money came from.

A large recent deposit? 💰
Money transferred from your parents?
Funds from a property sale?
Business income?
Savings?
An education loan or GIC?

👉 Your source of funds should be supported with proper documents and evidence.

Your financial documents should clearly tell the story of where the money came from, how it was accumulated, and whether the funds are genuinely available for your studies in Canada.

Here’s something many applicants are worried about:

If your PNP application was withdrawn and you’re now applying through CEC, don’t automatically assume you have to list that withdrawn PNP as a previous PR application.

The key is understanding what was actually submitted and what the question on the IRCC form is asking.

Are you an Ontario graduate looking at the OINP? 🇨🇦
Here’s an important point about the recent-graduate wage rule.

For eligible recent Ontario graduates in the TEER 0–3 pathway, there is an exception to the normal median-wage requirement. Instead of meeting the median wage, the applicable low-wage level may satisfy the wage requirement if you meet the recent-graduate criteria.

🚨 And here’s the part many people misunderstand:

The 3-year recent-graduate period is calculated from your date of graduation to the date you submit your OINP application — NOT from the date you submit your EOI.

So, don’t simply look at when you created your EOI and assume you have three years from that date.

📌 Your graduation date + application submission date are critical when determining whether you fall within the recent-graduate window.

OINP rules can be technical, so always check your eligibility based on the rules applicable to your application.

Holding a study permit and a work permit at the same time? Here’s something important to know about Express Entry. 🇨🇦

Generally, you cannot double-count the same period to claim points for both Canadian work experience and full-time study.

However, there are immigration programs where your Canadian education and eligible Canadian work experience can both contribute to your eligibility or points, depending on the specific program and how the experience was gained.

👉 The key is understanding which program you’re applying under and whether your work experience qualifies under its rules.

Don’t assume that having both permits automatically means you can claim everything twice. Your study history, work experience, program requirements, and timing all matter.

Listen to this carefully if you’re considering withdrawing your refugee claim. 🇨🇦

In simple terms, when you make a refugee claim, a removal order may already be in place, but enforcement of that removal order can be stayed while your claim is being processed, depending on your situation.

However, if you withdraw your refugee claim, that stay can end and the removal order may become enforceable. In certain circumstances, you could then be required to leave Canada within the applicable timeframe.

⚠️ That’s why you should think carefully before taking action. Withdrawing a refugee claim can have serious immigration consequences, and the rules can depend on your individual circumstances.
