Canada may be facing labour shortages, but a large pool of skilled talent is already here.

According to Daniel Bernhard, CEO of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, approximately 640,000 immigrants in Canada are working in jobs below their qualifications. Many highly educated and experienced newcomers are unable to fully utilize their skills and professional training.

The conversation is no longer just about attracting talent — it's also about helping skilled immigrants succeed in the careers they were trained for.

🇨🇦 Important update for digital nomads planning to visit Canada!

Canadian visa officers are now being instructed to verify more details from applicants who intend to work remotely while visiting Canada for employers located outside the country.

📌 Applicants may need to provide additional documentation showing:
✅ Their employer is based outside Canada
✅ Their work is fully remote
✅ Their employment or self-employment arrangement
✅ Evidence supporting their remote work activities

The goal is to ensure visitors entering as digital nomads are genuinely working for foreign employers and not participating in the Canadian labour market.

If you’re planning to work remotely while visiting Canada, make sure your application clearly explains your work arrangement and includes supporting documents.

🇨🇦 Canada’s Federal Court is facing a significant increase in immigration-related cases, with filings rising sharply over the past few years.

⚖️ Some immigration lawyers believe the growing use of AI and automation tools in application processing may be contributing to more visa refusals and legal challenges. They argue that decisions are becoming less detailed and may not fully address the evidence submitted by applicants.

🤖 IRCC, however, maintains that AI does not make immigration decisions. According to the department, all refusal decisions continue to be made by trained officers following a human review, while technology is used to assist with administrative tasks and file processing.

📈 As immigration application volumes continue to grow, the debate over technology, decision-making quality, and court backlogs remains in focus.
