“Great leaders have more than one way to influence. Their advantage is knowing which one to turn up, which one to turn down, and when.”
— Sheriff Thaver
Most leaders develop a way of leading that works for them. Some naturally give direction, others challenge, create accountability, facilitate discussion, invite ideas, or give people more space to own the outcome.
The problem is not having a preferred approach. It is relying on that approach when the situation requires something different.
Strong leadership is about having a broader repertoire—and the judgment to know what the moment requires.
So perhaps the better question is not:
“What is my leadership style?”
But:
“What does this situation require from me now?”
