A new federal tax proposal could change the timing of aircraft purchases in Canada.

The proposed Productivity Mega Deduction would allow qualifying aircraft to be fully deducted in the tax year they become available for use. For a buyer working toward a taxation year end, that makes the time needed for inspections, financing, registration, and getting the aircraft into service especially relevant.

A federal tax change could affect the timing of Canadian aircraft purchases.

Announced September 15, the Productivity Mega Deduction would allow eligible aircraft to be fully deducted in the tax year they become available for use. That date matters: signing a purchase agreement or closing a transaction is not necessarily the same as getting an aircraft into service.
