✨Meet Erin, our newest studio technician ✨

Erin Merkley is a ceramic artist and designer from the Thousand Islands region of Eastern Ontario. After relocating to Toronto during the pandemic, she returned to school to pursue a career in the creative fields. She was introduced to ceramics through Sheridan College’s Art Fundamentals program, which led her to complete a degree in ceramics through the Honours Bachelor of Craft and Design program.

Growing up in a small, rural river town surrounded by forests, bodies of water, and more wildlife than people, she spent much of her childhood exploring and observing nature. Finding wonder and play in the material world from an early age made falling deeply for the ceramic process feel seamless. Drawn to simple, clean forms and the subtle ways surface, light, material, and space can interact, her practice blends traditional ceramic processes with contemporary design tools to explore movement, softness, and form through functional objects. She seeks to capture a sense of life and movement by distilling natural forms into essential shapes and silhouettes. Her organic, flowing forms explore the relationship between clay, light, and space, bringing playful softness to everyday objects and environments. She is excited to bring her technical experience and curiosity for the ceramic process into the studio, supporting fellow artists and makers along the way.

Looking for something fun, hands on, and a little different? Our Teen Pottery Workshops are here! ✨

Designed for ages 13–17, these workshops give teens the chance to get creative while learning real pottery skills, including:
🤲 Hand-building techniques
🌀 Pottery wheel methods
✨ Trimming & finishing
🎨 Glazing & firing

Whether they’re completely new to pottery or already love working with clay, it’s a great opportunity to learn, create, and make something they’re proud of!
