IRCC has invited 2,000 candidates to apply for permanent residence through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

📉 The CRS cut-off has dropped again.

The previous CEC draw on September 15 had a CRS cut-off of 519. This latest draw came in at 518.

The CEC cut-off has now moved down from 523 on August 18 → 521 → 519 → 518 across the subsequent CEC draws.

If you have Canadian work experience and are building your Express Entry profile, these draws are important to watch.

Canada has issued 733 invitations to apply for permanent residence through the latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Express Entry draw.

Candidates invited in this round had a valid provincial nomination. A provincial nomination through Express Entry provides 600 additional CRS points, which can significantly increase a candidate's ranking in the pool.

Newfoundland & Labrador has received 1,000 additional provincial nomination spaces for 2026, bringing the NLPNP annual quota to 2,379.

📌 Key updates:
• NLPNP quota: 2,379
• AIP allocation: 475
• Combined 2026 allocation: 2,854
• 2025 combined allocation: 2,525
• As of September 10: 2,198 NLPNP invitations and 394 AIP invitations
• PR processing: Base PNP 13 months, Enhanced PNP 7 months, AIP 26 months

The additional spaces are intended to support Newfoundland & Labrador’s workforce and demographic needs, including areas such as healthcare, education, social support and rural communities.

⚠️ More nomination spaces do not mean automatic nomination. Applicants still need to meet the relevant requirements, submit an EOI where applicable, receive an invitation and complete the required application process.

RELYING ON AN EXPRESS ENTRY CATEGORY? THIS UPDATE IS IMPORTANT! 🇨🇦

Canada is reviewing its Express Entry category-based selection system for 2027 — and some current labour-shortage categories could become narrower.

IRCC is considering narrowing the number or eligibility of categories used to address labour shortages, with a possible shift toward a smaller and more targeted group of occupations.

The current 2026 labour-shortage categories include:

🏥 Healthcare & Social Services
💻 STEM
🔨 Trades
🎓 Education
🚛 Transport

For 2027, IRCC is considering whether to continue selecting workers across all shortage occupations or focus on a smaller, more targeted set of occupations.

⚠️ Important: Being eligible for a category today does not guarantee that the same category or eligibility rules will remain in 2027.

If your occupation currently qualifies under an Express Entry category, this is the time to understand your options and prepare your profile rather than simply waiting for 2027.

WAITING ON A CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP CERTIFICATE? YOU NEED TO SEE THIS! 🇨🇦

IRCC’s latest September 2026 processing-time update shows a major increase in some immigration backlogs.

🇨🇦 Citizenship Certificate:
⏳ 33 months
📈 Up from 10 months in March 2026
🚨 That’s a 23-month increase in roughly six months!

And there’s more:

👩‍⚕️ Caregiver PR applications:
⏳ 76 months processing time
📋 Around 36,900 applications are in the queue.

There is some positive movement too.

✅ Work permits from inside Canada: now around 110 days, continuing to improve.
✅ Visitor record extensions: eased slightly to 403 days.

The September IRCC data shows that processing times can change significantly — sometimes within just a few months.

If citizenship, permanent residence, or your status in Canada depends on one of these applications, planning ahead is more important than ever.
