“This was my opportunity to be the change I wanted to see in our industry, to be the kind of influence that was often missing in my earlier experiences,” said Derek Pereira, who joined EllisDon in 2018, and became a Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) manager in 2019.

As we acknowledge Men’s Mental Health in June, having real conversations and resources available throughout the year is an ongoing commitment that’s central to our culture of safety both on and off our sites. Symptoms of chronic stress impacts our mental health differently, , but this a reminder that it doesn't have to be something you carry alone.

The long-vacant WWII memorial site (The West Memorial Building) has been transformed into a secure workplace for Canada’s highest courts, delivering seismic upgrades, improved accessibility, restored stonework and windows, and entirely new mechanical and electrical systems.

The team also reinforced the Memorial Colonnade with full-height anchors drilled into bedrock and reimagined interior spaces, contributing to the long-term preservation of this significant landmark. A complex transformation that reflects the care and expertise required to modernize an iconic heritage space in Canada.

Congratulations to Nicole El-Sayah on winning the OGCA Community Involvement Award, a recognition of her outstanding impact beyond the job site. From leading inclusive initiatives through our PEACE employee group to building meaningful connections across teams and communities, Nicole exemplifies what it means to lead with purpose.

“This recognition is only possible because of the support and participation of fellow PEACE members and the leadership team. This is a shared achievement and a win for everyone in the LGBTQ2S+ community at EllisDon and beyond,” says Nicole El-Sayah.

Thank you for helping build stronger communities both within EllisDon and beyond.

Now Open: The Freedom Mobile Arch at the PNE is ready to welcome 10,000 guests!

Bringing it to life meant assembling the massive, long-span timber arch roof, featuring an iconic starburst geometry, and large concrete supports that anchor the structure and make the column-free (aka no bad seats!) design possible. All of this was delivered while integrating complex acoustic, lighting, and AV systems, and navigating a highly constrained site with existing underground infrastructure and challenging ground conditions.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this landmark project to life.

Back in the late 80s, EllisDon was a mid‑size builder, and not the most obvious choice for this project. But for EllisDon founder Don Smith, the SkyDome was the job to put everything on the line. A fully retractable roof had never been built anywhere, and it needed to be ready in just 30 months.

“There was no other option,” says Brian Blackman, Superintendent on SkyDome. “This place was going to open.” And it did - on time and for the world to see. On June 3, 1989, the opening ceremonies went ahead despite 45,000 attendees getting soaked when the roof was opened during a storm. Reportedly, upset guests were offered free dry cleaning.

For us, no complaints. Rain or shine, the SkyDome stands as an iconic moment in our 75‑year legacy.

As we kick off Pride Month, we’re spotlighting Seamus Kiely, a Superintendent whose commitment to inclusion is making an impact on-site at EllisDon.

In his role and through his involvement with PEACE, one of our employee-led inclusion groups, Seamus is committed to helping build a workplace where everyone can feel like they belong.

"Showing up as yourself at work, especially as someone who leads a team, creates a safer culture for everyone,” says Seamus Kiely.

Our PEACE team plays an important role in fostering dialogue and connection but creating a safe and inclusive environment is a shared responsibility, one that starts with leadership and extends across our entire organization.
