Today I got to...
⭐ Talk about Compassion Satisfaction to a room full of incredible up-and-coming veterinary professionals!
⭐ Hang out by my old locker!
⭐ Participate in an Advisory Committee meeting to continue shaping an important program that combines veterinary assistant skills with office administration skills - that's right - cross trained VA CSRs!
⭐ Travel home safely despite the crazy weather!
⭐ Talk about how "Change is Inevitable, Chaos is Not" to an amazing group of leaders from the London and Area Vet Association!

It's been a long day, and a very satisfying one.

I believe all of my audiences stayed awake...with one exception (she was comfortable, so I was not, but everybody knows you NEVER wake a sleeping bear)

I think it's fair to say that in many ways, the Covid-years reshaped our Industry, perceptions, strengths and vulnerabilities. As you know, I love talking about the "So What Now?" The reality is, there will always be something. It might not be a global pandemic, but as we continue to evolve, change is constant, and resistance is commonplace.

Along with the two other global panelists who I have heard wonderful things about, I'm looking forward to a dynamic discussion that is going to focus on things like (yes, I'm copying and pasting directly from the promo stuff!):
🧭 What the pandemic permanently changed about leadership.
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Navigating hybrid teams, staff shortages, and client expectations.
⚖️ Balancing compassion fatigue and business sustainability.
🌟 Staying visible and supportive in times of uncertainty.
🗣️ Communication practices that keep teams engaged.

Honestly, what can I say... "these are a few of my favourite things!"

So if you're looking for something to do next Thursday night (January 15th) from 8-9pm ET, I would love the support.
It will be live on zoom and also streaming to LinkedIn and Facebook. In return, I'll do my best to educate, empower or at the very least - entertain!

Being a Registered Veterinary Technician isn't a job. It's a calling. It's a doorway to incredible experiences, opportunities and expansive career paths, and it's also a community of deeply like-minded, passionate and incredibly skilled people.
At the time that this photo was taken, I had no idea what lay ahead for me... and even in this moment, I don't know what's to come. What I do know is that I am so proud to be an RVT. Part of an amazing group of humans who make a difference every day, in every corner of the world, in countless industries.
October 31st brings with it the end of RVT Month - a month of celebrating the accomplishments, blood, sweat and tears (all quite literally), of RVTs everywhere.
I started in scrubs, but want to acknowledge the many RVTs who work in roles outside of traditional, clinical practice. From industry representatives, to operations leaders, educators and social workers - your energy, instincts, education and experiences make you uniquely qualified for your work, and it is truly incalculable how many people and animals benefit because of it.
Happy RVT Month to all of the RVTs in my world!
(and a special shout out to my fellow Vet Alliance team member Lucie Langevin-Neil)

What a wonderful weekend!
I am so grateful to the New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association (NBVMA) and the Eastern Veterinary Technician's Association - EVTA for inviting me to take part in the NBVMA Fall Conference!
Between doing 3 talks and a keynote I got to meet so many amazing people, and the level of engagement and curiosity was awesome. As a speaker, it makes for such a special session when you have participants leaning in, asking questions, getting involved, and supporting each other’s learning. We laughed, got vulnerable, shared and compared – digging deep while having fun. I love being around people excited to connect the dots and figure out how the content applies to their world. It was my first time in New Brunswick and I felt very fortunate. I met lots of new people but also got to see previous colleagues who represented various stages of my career; a wonderful reminder of the bonds created in this industry, and the passionate people in it!
Huge thanks to IDEXX and Gateway Pet Memorial for their sponsorship and continued support – we couldn’t have done this without you!

Where are my progressive veterinary leaders?
I recorded this from the Inn at Laurel Point when I visited in June. It is our guidED venue and, as you can see, the location is breathtaking.

There are so many medicine conferences for vet space – which makes sense. But our industry requires a lot more than great medicine. Strong leaders develop strong teams, empowering them to practice strong medicine, all of which ultimately leads to strong businesses.

This leadership experience is for practice owners, medical directors, practice managers, hospital directors, team leads and aspiring veterinary leaders.

I'm excited to confirm that we have 14 hours of CE credit through VHMA for our CVPMs, and 12 hours of CE Credit through AAVSB for those looking for RACE approval.
..So if you know somebody who would benefit from spending quality time with heavy hitters Stephanie Goss, Dr. Betsy Charles, Dr. Caitlin DeWilde, Dr. Shona Kowtecky and Loretta Cella – then tag them or share this post. guidED isn’t for everybody – but if you’re determined to be the best version of yourself – then visit the website and jump on this incredible adventure with us! https://na.eventscloud.com/website/54831/home/

p.s. Our speakers have been dropping video messages so that you know exactly what they are going to tackle… check out a few using the links below

I'm so excited to be speaking, and doing the keynote, for the NBVMA Fall Conference. Please help to get the word out to friends and colleagues in the area!

Senani is not only one of our amazing, talented and informative speakers this year, but she will also be giving a Keynote talk on Saturday evening about the Evolution of Veterinary Medicine. How else can we know where we are going, without first knowing where we have been?
Here is a testimonial of the impact of this Keynote had on one RVT - you will not want to miss this!!

“Senani’s keynote, ‘The Evolution of Veterinary Medicine,’ is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s equal parts inspiring, emotional, and deeply reflective—a powerful reminder of how far our profession has come and the heart that’s carried it forward. Her storytelling brings chills, stirring something in you that you didn’t even realize needed awakening. This isn’t just a talk—it’s a movement. You’ll leave feeling
proud to be part of this field, and more connected to your purpose than ever before.”

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association and the delegates of the Mountain West Veterinary Conference in Boise! My keynote and sessions received really positive feedback, and I can say without a doubt that I met some of the kindest people I've ever met at a conference! I felt so welcomed, not just "on the clock," but also during the social events (my first ever steak fry, along with an auction complete with some cowboy poetry)! I have not seen a room with so many people who have been in veterinary medicine over 50 years (longest standing was 53 years - the incredible Dr. David Rustebakke!). It was a special group of people and I am so grateful to have spent this time with them. Huge thanks to Whitney Kaiser, CVT for recommending me to the IVMA, and shout outs to IVMA President, Dr. Alicia Ewing and Executive Director, Travis Jones, for taking such good care of me!

What a privilege to find myself in Boise, Idaho! Pro-tip from the conference organizers, there was a winery a two minute walk from the hotel, with the perfect vibe to relax after a crazy travel day! It was worth staying up later even though I woke up at 4:30am ET this morning! Tomorrow I will be the keynote speaker for the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association Mountain West Veterinary Conference, and will also give a few talks through the day. I'm in a beautiful place and the weather is gorgeous - this is going to be a lot of fun!
