Inventor markets shrimp oil for dogs and cat
Moncton inventor Luc Jalbert has launched a new AVITO3+ Shrimp Oil supplement for dogs and cats, derived from surplus shrimp oil from a processing plant in northern New Brunswick.
Jalbert, co-founder of Prelam Enterprises in Moncton, said the shrimp oil supplements are a natural product that is rich in astaxanthin, Omega-3 and natural vitamin E, which give dogs and cats more energy and softer fur. Astaxanthin is a reddish pigment that occurs naturally in types of algae. It's what gives the reddish colour to salmon, trout, shrimp and other seafood. It is an antioxidant, used to treat Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, high cholesterol, vision loss and other ailments.
He said tests of the product have been very positive. It is now available at Global Pet Food stores in Moncton and online.
Prelam has a team of chemists and designers at its laboratory in Moncton, which is now under strict protocols against the COVID-19 virus.
Jalbert said the product is derived from the natural oils of northern cold-water shrimp harvested in northern New Brunswick and processed at the Island Fishermen co-operative plant in Lameque. After the shrimp is processed, the water goes through a centrifuge process to remove the red colouring before it goes back into the sea. It is that centrifuge process that removes the red oil that contains Astaxanthin.
Jalbert purchases the red oil directly from the shrimp plant, and it processed into the "final product at the Moncton facility.
The shrimp oil supplement for pets is the latest product from Prelam, which is best known for Just A Drop, a product designed to eliminate toilet odours. The company also developed a product to eliminate the odour of smoke after cannabis was legalized. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jalbert and his team developed an alcohol-free hand sanitizer that is now used by the provincial school system.
