Our Teranga collection of baskets is made by a cooperative of women artisans from a village near Tivavoune in Senegal. Ndeye (in the picture) is the head of the cooperative. Married with 7 children, she learned weaving techniques from her mother and grandmother. She dedicated her time to weave baskets because the income generated by her husband as a mason was insufficient to cover her family needs and send her children to school.

Since 2010, she gathered the women of her families who were experiencing the same financial issues to form a cooperative and weave the baskets in order to help each of them sustain their families through additional income generation.

Under the baobab tree, where all the magic happens ✨ The artisans usually gather under this tree in the late afternoon and evening to weave our beautiful baskets.

My dream is to build a local for them so that they won’t worry anymore about the burning sun, the heat or the rain.
