A report published recently by global accounting firm Moore Global Intelligence provides insight on the impact of ESG on business performance.

Senior decision makers at 1,262 companies with more than 250 employees in Australia, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK and the US were surveyed, between May and June this year.

In Canada, Circular Economy Month begins today, October 1st.

For decades, Circular Innovation Council has engaged Canadians from coast to coast to coast to better understand the issues of waste and the opportunities they have to accelerate our transition to a circular economy.

Small everyday behaviour changes are critical, like reducing consumption, recycling, etc – but today’s climate and advancing the circular economy requires bigger, broader, and bolder changes.

Throughout the entire month of October, organizations, communities, and schools across Canada celebrate through social media, events, initiatives, and learning about the seven program themes and how to tackle them.

Here we are! Today began the first step in a long list of plastic bans in the city of Montreal which has committed to becoming a zero-waste city by 2030 under the slogan, "We only have one city to live in."

The bylaw, which affects all 19 boroughs of the City of Montreal, will apply to retail stores and restaurants, including those offering take-out and home delivery.

Sustainable development goal #7 aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

The UN explains: "Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity the world faces today. Be it for jobs, security, climate change, food production or increasing incomes, access to energy for all is essential.”

Businesses can accelerate the transition to an affordable, reliable and sustainable energy system by (1) investing in renewable energy resources, (2) prioritizing energy efficient practices, and (3) adopting clean energy technologies and infrastructure. “Hey friends, we just gave our company to planet Earth.”

Yes, the founder Yvon Chouinard gave Patagonia away to fight the climate crisis. In their words, “Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth for investors, we’ll use the wealth we create to protect the source of all wealth.”

We are moving into a new era of capitalism where more and more we will see unconventional ideas and more conscious mores.

The 6th of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the is to ensure access to water and sanitation for all.

Fifty years after the 1972 Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, which put “health and sanitation” on the international agenda, ensuring water and sanitation for all “remains one of the world’s biggest challenges.”

673 million people in the world today do not have a toilet in their homes. More than half the world’s population use sanitation services that release untreated human waste into the environment, contaminating water sources, and 698 million school-age children do not have basic sanitation services at school.

Sustainable Development Goal 6 goes beyond drinking water, sanitation and hygiene to also address the quality and sustainability of water resources, which are critical to the survival of people and the planet.

All businesses can contribute to the alleviation of these water challenges by adopting a water stewardship strategy that addresses the economic, environment, and social dimensions of water.
