This week, I had the privilege of facilitating a business ideation workshop for members of Indigenous communities in the Northern Quebec region as part of the Nunavik Economic Summit.
As someone who grew up in Brazil, this experience was particularly meaningful. In my experience down South, we receive very little education about the Indigenous peoples who inhabit our lands, and their presence, history, and contributions are rarely acknowledged in everyday urban life.
Having lived in both Vancouver and Montreal for the past 18+ years has given me opportunities to learn more about the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples of Canada, their histories, cultures, and ongoing realities.
While there is still much work to be done and many systemic barriers remain, I am grateful for the many opportunities I've had to learn more about it and to witness some of their rituals - something I wasn't able to experience in my homeland.
