Did you know that Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival.

Breastmilk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastmilk provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life according to World Health Organization. ✔️

Our partner in the field, World Vision Colombia, helped us compile and record these heartwarming testimonials from some of the entrepreneur women who had shown incredible potential during these months of apprenticeship as part of the Motherfood Project Colombia 2022.

Inés’s, Marta’s, Yolanda’s and Maria Delia’s life stories represent the lives of many women in Colombia and Latin America, who despite the many challenges, have decided to be resilient, brave, and persistent for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Together with their teams in Cali, Bogotá, and Bucaramanga, these entrepreneurs are now testing and manufacturing prototypes of delicious fortified bars with the amazing support of World Vision, Alcaguete S.A.S, and Motherfood International.

We are very pleased to be part of the ex*****on of their goals as women-led teams, as they build a path to continue learning and becoming self-sufficient while betting for increased access to nutritious snacks in their neighborhoods.

"The new approach, outlined in the study, is to treat obesity as a neurodevelopmental disorder — some of which have been successfully prevented with dietary supplements. For example, neural tube defects that occur in human fetuses have been prevented by augmenting folic acid in the diet."

The study focused on a region of the brain that regulates food intake, physical activity and metabolism

We believe that every child in the world has the right to live happily and healthily. Children's healthy growth fundamentally requires ACCESS to an optimal diet for THEM and their MOTHERS. Safe nutritious foods in sufficient amounts before birth and during the first two years of a child's life help guarantee the appropriate physical and cognitive development children deserve.

Understanding local food preferences and food traditions plays an important role in our work. Our Intern in Ghana, Margaret Mensah, explained to us the "rivalry" between Ghanaian and Nigerian Jollof rice. 🤪 "The first distinction between Ghana and Nigerian Jollof is the type of rice grain utilized, the cooking technique is the second distinction. As a Ghanaian, I adore the smokey jollof rice my mother makes with fresh chili pepper sauce".

😋

“For me, food serves as a symbol of solidarity and community rather than just as a means of subsistence. My family is required to eat together, which is customary in African households and represents harmony and serenity." - Margaret.
