Our programs are designed to help people navigate what can at times be the challenging terrain of work and retirement. While some dream of retirement all of their working lives, others struggle terribly with the transition and equate it to an actual trauma. Our job is to help you prepare for your emotional well-being in retirement so that this next phase of your life is filled with meaning and hap
piness. We do not discuss money matters or investments. We discuss everything else that you should consider prior to leaving the workforce. Do you have friends outside of work? (so important for men)
Do you have hobbies and interests beyond what you do for a living? Have you considered how your retirement will affect your relationships? You may be spending more time with your spouse than ever before!!! And your children - don't be surprised if they plan for you to babysit your grandchildren now that you are no longer working. Have you thought about what you are going to do with your time? For many of us work is the founding principle upon which we build our identities. What happens when you no longer have work? Where will you find meaning and purpose? What is going to get you out of bed in the morning? And in case you are wondering what, if anything I know about retirement (which is a legitimate question), I have been studying the work to retirement transition for ten years. It is the subject of my Master's thesis and is part of my PhD. I have also been facilitating seminars and workshops on retirement for organizations across Canada such as The RCMP, Telus, Exxon Mobil, Concordia University, Montreal Pipeline, Fednav and the like. I invite you to check out our website and snoop around. See if there are any seminars that are of interest. To your retirement success!
